    Airbus Leak Instigates Emergency Landing in South Africa

    What: South African Airways Airbus A319-100 from Johannesburg en route to Port Elizabeth
    Where: OR Tambo International airport.
    When: Monday March 23
    Why: The plane returned to the airport of origin to make an emergency landing due to an oil leak which was said to be non-threatening. Prior to this event, a gauge indicated a pressure problem. The crew shut down one engine when it lost oil pressure.

    Passengers took another plane an hour and a half later.

    Pilot Killed after Banner-Towing Plane Crashed at Compton/Woodley Airport

    Plane crashA banner-towing plane crashed and caught fire at Compton/Woodley Airport, located in Los Angeles County, California, on August 9th.

    The single-engine Aviat A1 plane crashed while attempting to pick up an advertising banner.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash while another person on the ground sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

    According to Los Angeles County Aviation Commission official Dennis Lord, “For some reason, he turned loose of the banner. He was down at a very slow speed. The aircraft stalled and impacted the ground. Why is yet to be determined.

    Jetstar Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Guam

    JetstarJetstar flight JQ-12 made an emergency landing in Guam, on August 6th.

    The plane flying from Tokyo Narita Airport, Japan, to Coolangatta in Queensland, Australia, was diverted after the crew had to shut down one of the engines due to a low oil pressure indication.

    The plane landed safely. All 320 people aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    American Airlines Flight 880 DIverts to Little Rock

    What: American Airlines Flight 880 en route from Dallas to Indianapolis
    Where: Little Rock, Arkansas
    When: Oct 4, 2012: 4: 45 pm
    Who: 140 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: The flight was en route from Dallas to Indianapolis when the plane’s right engine developed problems.

    Pilots diverted to Little Rock where they made a safe landing.

    Passengers were provided alternatives to reach Indianapolis.

    Bird-Hit Tui fly Flight Makes Safe Landing in Portugal

    Tui fly flight X3-2806 made a safe landing after a bird strike near Funchal, Portugal, on September 12th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Frankfurt, Germany, was on final approach to Funchal when a bird hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Nordic Regional Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Finland

    Nordic Regional Airlines flight AY-499 had to make an emergency landing in Helsinki, Finland, on January 3rd.

    The plane took off for Joensuu, Finland, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew failed to retract the landing gear.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
