What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from New York JFK airport to Switzerland
Where: Halifax Nova Scotia
When: June 9 2009 Tuesday night 8:20 p.m (45 minutes after takeoff)
Who: 206 on board: 194 passengers and 12 crew
Why: After takeoff, smoke was detected in the cabin. The flight requested an emergency landing in Halifax. The cause of the smoke was determined to be an electrical fire in the plane’s bathroom ceiling fan which had caught fire after overheating

A replacement jet was arranged to take the passengers to Zurich.

United Airlines Flight 2068 Returns to SFO due to Mechanical Problem

new-united-logoUnited Airlines flight 2068 had to return and make an emergency landing in San Francisco due to a mechanical problem.

The Seattle-bound flight took off from San Francisco International Airport at about 1:30 p.m. on May 23. Shortly after it took off, a mechanical problem was discovered in the plane.

The Boeing 757 was then returned to San Francisco where it made an uneventful emergency landing at about 1:57 p.m.. No one was injured in the incident.

Another plane was arranged to take the passengers to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

IndiGo Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Bird Strike

An IndiGo Airlines flight had to return and make an emergency landing at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Chhattisgarh, India, on September 27th.

The plane took off for Kolkata, India, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: CSA Czech Airlines Avion de Transport Regional ATR-42-500
Where: Prague
When: June 9, 2012
Who: 1 injury
Why: An explosion occurred in airport hanger “F” (Farms subsidiary CSA – Czech Airlines Technics) that destroyed a seven year old plane leased by CSA Czech Airlines from Air Contractors. The plane was a complete write off, with nothing remaining but a “charred rudder”. Another Czech Airlines ATR 42-600 (OK-JFK) was also damaged. The twenty-one hour fire occurred at Ruzyne airport and was fought by airport firemen and fire fighters from stations 2, 3, 7 and 8.

One maintenance worker was taken two a burn clinic at Vinohrady hospital. Two others may have also had minor injuries. The cause is under investigation but is thought to be sourced from combustibles that burned during maintenance.

Sunexpress Flight makes Safe Landing in Germany after Flaps Problem

Sun expressSunexpress flight EW-1885 made a safe emergency landing at Dusseldorf Airport, Dusseldorf, Germany, on June 4th.

The Boeing 737-800, flying from Rome, Italy, was on approach to Dusseldorf’s runway when the crew encountered flaps problem, prompting the plane to land at a higher than normal speed.

The plane landed successfully.

All people onboard remained unharmed.
