    Ebola Scare Forces American Airlines Flight to Land in Emergency

    American AirlinesEbola scare prompted American Airlines flight 2791 to land in emergency at Midland International Airport and Spaceport, Texas, at 11:05 p.m. on October 7.

    The emergency landing was made after a female passenger aboard the flight from Dallas to Midland, vomited and showed flu-like symptoms midair. The passenger was travelling from Istanbul, Turkey to Midland, through Dallas-Fort Worth international airport.

    The plane landed safely and the patient was shifted to Midland Memorial Hospital. The other 69 passengers aboard the flight were allowed to leave but were told to carefully look for Ebola symptoms.

    After extensive tests and consultations with CDC officials, the Midland Memorial Hospital confirmed that the patient was not affected by Ebola virus. According to the MMH press release, “As a reminder, the two primary cues that would suggest the potential for this virus are a fever at or above 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit and recent travel to an endemic area where several Ebola cases have been confirmed…Over the course of this event, the patient in question never had a fever nor have they traveled to or from an endemic region.”

    Croatian Cessna Crashes into Velebit Mountain

    What: Cessna T303 owned by Josip Crncevic en route from Zagreb to Zadar.
    Where: missing on Velebit Mountain
    When: Feb 7 3:45 pm
    Who: carrying pilot and 3 crew members: the pilot and 3 crew members from Zagreb flying club “Ban,” were: Gerd Govejsek, 63, Walter Aleksandar, 49, Miljenko Bartolic, 61, and Zvonko Kelek, 68.
    Why: There is very little factual information available, but thecrash is being investigated by Investigator Dinko Vodanovic. It is speculated that the altitude meter or the wings froze.

    It took 4 days of searching before the wreckage was located on the north side of the mountain at 11am at an altitude of 1,200 metres on Vagan peak. The scene of the crash is subject to harsh weather conditions.

    The owner Josip Crncevichas gone public saying (paraphrased) “I am convinced that the army who carries out military aircraft practice near Zadar is involved. Zagreb’s flight control allegedly allowed the aircraft to fly via a prohibited route. The flight control forced my colleagues to reduce their altitude from eight to six thousand feet.”

    Blue Air Flight Returns to Bucharest After Loss of Cabin Pressure

    Blue Air flight 0B-105 had to return and make an emergency landing in Bucharest, Romania, on December 29th.

    The plane took off for Paris Beauvais Tille Airport, France, but had to turn back after it lost cabin pressure.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Australians Killed in Alaska Crash

    What: LNP Saratoga Inc. Piper Saratoga was en route from Fort Yukon to Fairbanks
    Where: Alaska
    When: July 18, 2012 5 PM
    Who: 2 aboard
    Why: A plane owned by LNP Saratoga Inc and eased to the West Valley Flying Club of Palo Alto. disappeared from radar in Alaska on July 18.

    The Air National Guard’s 210th and 212th Rescue Squadrons were deployed and discovered the wreckage. Alaska State Troopers identified the 64-year-old pilot Stephen Knight and 60-year-old Gillian Knight of Queensland, Australia.

    The pilots had been engaged in filing a “pop-up” Instrument Flight Rules Plan. The cloud cover was low.

    Two other planes had been flying with the wrecked plane but each with a different route. The wreckage was located 63 kilometres north of Fairbanks.

    Visibility hampered recovery operations on Wednesday but now the remains have been recovered and sent for autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office.

    Small Plane Lands in Emergency on Hartford Busway

    small planeA single-engine plane made an emergency landing on the CTFastrak busway on New Park Avenue, West Hartford, Connecticut, at around 3:15 p.m. on November 29.

    It appears that the plane, which was flying from Robertson Airport, Plainville, lost engine power while attempting to land at Hartford-Brainard Airport.

    The pilot, identified as Danny Hall, of Torrington, remained uninjured.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Air India Flight Diverts to Iran due to Cracked Windshield

    Air India flight AI-120 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Tehran, Iran, on August 9th.

    The Boeing 787-800 plane heading from Frankfurt, Germany, to Delhi, India, was diverted after cracks were noticed in the left windshield.

    The plane landed safely. All two hundred and forty-nine passengers aboard remained unharmed.
