    Pilot Injured after Medical Helicopter Crash-Landed in Tennessee

    A medical helicopter crash-landed in Mountain City, Tennessee, on June 3rd.

    The incident happened after the aircraft, belonging to Wellmont Health System and PHI Air Medical, was dispatched to pick up a car crash victim.

    According to a statement released by Wellmont Health System and PHI Air Medical, “Soon after liftoff, the pilot, an employee of PHI Air Medical, which owns and operates the aircraft, identified a mechanical condition that required immediate landing. He executed emergency procedures to bring the aircraft to the ground, limiting risk to the passengers and damage to the aircraft.”

    The pilot was injured in the incident. He was taken to hospital.

    The incident is being investigated.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Chicago

    United Airlines flight UA-1549 made an emergency landing at O’Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois, on December 4th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane flying from Boston, Massachusetts, was descending toward Chicago when the crew noticed loss of thrust in both engines and declared an emergency.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Drone Crashes into Empire State Building; Owner Arrested

    A drone crashed into the 40th floor of the Empire State Building in New York, on February 4.

    According to the owner Sean Nivin Riddle, 29, all he wanted “was to shoot 5 seconds of video to promote a non-profit”. The drone ended up in a landing on the 35th floor.

    No injuries were reported.

    Riddle was taken into custody after the incident. He is facing charges of illegal aviation in and over the city, and reckless endangerment.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Birmingham, AL

    American Airlines flight AA-5723 made an emergency landing in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 24th.

    The Canadair CRJ-900 plane took off for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, but had to turn back after the crew reported smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All seventy-nine passengers and four crew members remained safe.

    Helicopter Crash-Lands on Long Island; No Injuries Reported

    A 2006 Robinson R22 Beta helicopter made a crash-landing near West Riviera Drive and West Alhambra Avenue in Lindenhurst, Long Island, New York, on January 27.

    The incident happened after the helicopter, carrying two people, lost power while returning to the Republic Airport. According to Frank Delia, of the Academy of Aviation, “It was a standard training flight…They were coming from the south practice area, which is off the south shore of Long Island, on their way back to Republic Airport after a successful training flight.”

    Both people aboard the aircraft, including the pilot Joseph Lombardo, 26, and his student Ming Chen, 26, remained uninjured.

    MD-80 Engine Shut Down In Boise Diversion

    What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Dallas/Ft Worth to Seattle
    Where: Boise
    When: Jan 28, 2012
    Who: 141 aboard
    Why: The American Airlines jet was en route when the left engine began running hot. Pilots shut down the engine.

    A replacement MD-80 was sent with parts and mechanics aboard to repair the stranded aircraft and assist the passengers.

    Pilots diverted to Boise and made a safe landing.
