    United Airlines Emergency Landing in Boise

    On Sept 26, a United Airlines Boeing 737-924ER (WL), flight 1603, was en route from Houston to Seattle with 161 passengers and six crew when the pilot suffered a heart attack.

    The first officer took over and diverted Flight 1603 to Boise, Idaho. A doctor and military personnel aboard the plane performed CPR on the Captain in First Class.

    A pilot/trainer who was a passenger took the copilot seat as the co-pilot took the captain’s seat and made the safe landing in Idaho.

    Capt. Henry Skillern, 63, was taken to Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise where he he died.

    United flew in a pilot from San Francisco and then Flight 1603 continued to Seattle.

    Moroccan Family Dies in Grenoble Plane Crash

    On January 5, 2013, a twin engine plane hit a remote hill near Grenoble and crashed, killing five. The pilot was flying his wife and three children from Grenoble France to Morocco. The plane (probably a Piper Seneca) disappeared from radar not long after takeoff.

    The family was returning home from a vacation in France. No one on the ground was hurt.

    Witnesses in Saint Pierre de Bressieux saw the plane crash. Emergency services dispatched to the scene found 5 deceased victims and a burning plane.

    Military Jet Crashes, Pilot Ejects


    An Indian Air Force MiG-29 was engaged in training maneuvers when the pilot ejected near Jamnagar in Gujarat, and the plane crashed. The wreckage is between Amran and Jivapar villages which are close to Jamangar airbase,

    During the training flight, the plane developed a “technical snag.”

    A court of inquiry is underway.

    Russian Chopper Crew Lost in Peacekeeping Mission

    UN Russian Mi-8 helicopter crashed at an altitude of 2,700 meters in the Democratic Republic of Congo killing four.

    The UTair helicopter was returning to Bukavu when it crashed 35 miles from its destination.

    The four crew members were Russian. The crew was en route between Shabunda and Bukavu when it hit bad weather.

    The crash occurred in mountainous terrain that is inaccessible, but it has been located. Forty rescuers are en route on foot. The helicopter was part of peacemaking mission MONUSCO.

    Mexico Cessna Crash Kills Politicians

    What: Cessna 210 Centurion en route from Toluca to Huatulco
    Where: Huatulco in Oaxaca 500 metres from Huatulco airport
    When: Sept 3 2010 11:00 a.m.
    Who: 6 fatalities, including the pilot Raymundo Manzano , a local coffee grower, Guillermo Zavaleta and Juan Huerta, both members of President Felipe Calderón’s National Action Party, and mayor-elect Joaquin Cortes
    Why: The plane lost contact with ATC, and crashed on approach to the airport on encountering turbulence. Bad weather and possible pilot error are being investigated as possible causes.

    The passengers were traveling to a training course for lawmakers.

    U2 Singer Bono in Mid-Air Scare

    U2 singer Bono had a midair mishap on November 12 when the luggage-compartment door of his private Learjet 60 fell off over Germany.

    The incident happened when rockstar was on his way from Dublin to Berlin, to perform at the Bambi Awards.

    The plane landed safely at the Berlin Schonefeld Airport at around 12:26 a.m. Besides Bono, there were 4 passengers and 2 pilots in the plane. None of them was harmed.

    Germout Freitag, from the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation, said, “The ground crew realized the door was gone and two suitcases had fallen out…Officials have not yet located the two suitcases or the hatch door, but they have been able to pinpoint the area where they are likely to have landed by the radar.”

    The cause of accident is under investigation.
