    What: Emirates Airlines Airbus A340-500 en route from Cape Town to Dubai
    Where: Capetown
    When: Jan 4 2012 1.55pm
    Who: 243 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the gear did not retract and (as was observed) the gear doors remained open. We presume the pilots did a fly-by that was the source of the visual conformation of the issue at hand.

    An hour and a half after takeoff, with emergency crews on standby, the pilots landed back in Capetown (3.20pm), and was towed.

    Passengers were provided hotel accommodations. The replacement flight was scheduled for Jan 5, 2012.

    Cracking Windshield Leads Delta to Vegas

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Los Angeles to New York
    Where: Las Vegas
    When: Jun 16th 2011
    Why: While en route, the right windshield of the Boeing developed a crack.

    The flight crew diverted to Las Vegas where they made a safe landing. The disposition of the passengers is not known, though we presume that the passengers were provided alternative flights to Kennedy airport

    American Airlines Plane Makes Safe Landing After Bird Strike

    American Airlines flight AA-343 made a safe landing following a bird strike near Chicago, Illinois, on August 17th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was flying from LaGuardia Airport, New York, when a bird impacted it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Small Plane Crashed in Potter County, PA; 3 Killed

    A Piper PA-28 plane crashed in Potter County, Pennsylvania, on October 16th.

    The plane was heading from Richmond International Airport, Virginia, to St. Catharines/Niagara District Airport, Ontario, Canada, when it went down in Keating Township.

    Three were three people aboard at the time; all of them were killed in the crash. They were identified as 18-year-old Cory Mijac, 25-year-old Rifat Tawig, and 18-year-old Benjamin Jeffries. All of them were from Ontario, Canada.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Air Canada Flight Diverts to Belfast International Airport

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC825 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Belfast International Airport in the United Kingdom, on August 22.

    The Boeing 767-300, en-route from Amsterdam to Toronto, was diverted after an unusual odor was noticed in the galley.

    The plane landed safely. There were 208 passengers and 8 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.

    The plane was taken for inspection.

    Pilot Walks Away After Ultralight Plane Crashed in Maine

    UltralightAn ultralight plane crash-landed in woods off Porter Road, Fryeburg, Maine on the afternoon of August 23rd.

    The single-seater Aerolite 103, flying from Leavitt Airport, New Hampshire, crashed while attempting an emergency landing at Eastern Slopes Regional Airport, Fryeburg, due to engine failure.

    The pilot, a 56-year-old Pennsylvania man, remained unharmed.
