What: World War I-era vintage Avro 504K owned by Wellington-based company The Vintage Aviator Where: Hood Aerodrome When: took off about 10.30am but crashed a few minutes later Who: The pilot’s name was not released. Why: the engines failed and the pilot, 34, tried to land the plane but was unable to clear the trees. The pilot was able to successfully exit the plane. The plane was disassembled in the tree and removed to be reassembled and repaired later.

Flight Aware What: Flight academy (leased) Cessna 172S Skyhawk en route from Daytona Beach airport to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport and back to Daytona. Where: Smyrna Beach Florida When: Feb 16, 2010 Who: Pilot and student Why: A Norwegian student and an instructor crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, just north of Canaveral National Seashore, near Bethune Beach in New Smyrna Beach, Florida in a leased Cessna Skyhawk, at about 6:30 pm. The plane was seen falling into the ocean 20 miles from the airport, 200 yards from the beach. The aircraft submerged before rescuers could reach the craft, and pieces of it are in the water.

What: Mountain Lifeflight Aerospatiale AS.350 Ecureuil en route from Renown Medical Center, Reno to Susanville, CA Where: 29 miles northwest of Reno, Lassen County, CA When: NOV 14, 2009 Who: 3 aboard Why: After delivering a patient to a Reno Medical Center/hospital, the helicopter crashed and was destroyed by fire while on the way to its home base.

What: Air Methods Corp Eurocopter AS-350 en route from a hospital in St. Joseph, MO Where: a field a mile north of Midwest National Air Center. Missouri When: April 26, 2011, 7 pm Who: 3 crew and one patient Why: The St. Joseph Missouri medical chopper was on the way to Liberty Kansas about to refuel at Midwest National Air Center in Mosby when it went down in a Clay County field. There is no indication what went wrong that caused the crash and skies were reported to be clear. The wreckage is reported to be mangled. According to the video below the wreck might have been a failed landing, hitting the skids, then flipping.
There were no survivors. The crew lost in the crash were Randy Bever, Flight Nurse, 47, of Savannah, Mo., Chris Frakes, Flight Paramedic, 36, of Savannah, Mo. and James Freudenberg, Pilot, 34, of Rapid City, Sd.
The name of the 58-year-old female passenger has not yet been released.
The helicopter was certified in 2005, good until 2013. Key Equipment Finance Inc. out of Boulder, CO.holds the lien and it was being operated by LifeNet, a subsidiary of Air Methods Inc. of Englewood, CO.
The NTSB is investigating.

A small aircraft crashed in Cañada de Praes area of Pilar de la Horadada, Alicante province, Spain, on May 10.
The small plane was going to Murcia from Vinarós when it started to lose altitude. The pilot decided to make an emergency landing at a large piece of land.
The plane flipped over onto its roof while landing. Both the people on board, the pilot and a passenger, managed to get out of the wreckage without any injuries, except for minor cuts and bruises.
The local police and Guardia Civil reached at the scene of the accident.
