    Michigan Flight Victims Recovered, Amazon Exec Crashed


    What: Great Lakes Air Inc Piper PA-32-260 Cherokee Six en route from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island
    Where: Lake Huron shore, about three miles north of St. Ignace, northern Michigan
    When: Dec 3, 2011
    Who: 2 fatalities
    Why: Thomas Phillips, 52, with homes in Kirkland and Mackinac Island, and Joseph Pann Jr., 29, of St. Ignace were killed in a piper crash in Michigan. From Mackinac County Airport at St. Ignace to the destination Mackinac Island Airport is 4.5 miles and should have taken six minutes, but the plane was reported missing and was later found 100 yards from shore. Search and rescue controllers were involved at 10:07 p.m after police called. No distress call was reported but the plane was tracked by the cellphone of one of the victims.

    Phillips was general manager with Amazon Web Services.

    United Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Newark

    United airlinesUnited Airlines flight 936 had to made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, on August 16.

    The flight, heading from Washington Dulles International Airport to Zurich, Switzerland, was diverted as a precaution after 4 crew members reported breathing problems.

    The plane landed safely and was thoroughly inspected. Authorities said the sick flight attendants did not need medical attention after landing.

    The passengers were accommodated in other flights.

    Condor Airlines Jet Diverts to Denver International Airport

    condor airlinesA Condor Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Denver International Airport, Colorado, on August 28.

    Authorities said the plane, en-route from Las Vegas to Frankfurt, was escorted by two fighter jets after the pilot declared an in-flight emergency due to a ‘disturbance on the plane.’

    The Boeing 767 landed uneventfully and everyone aboard remained safe.

    According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, “The disturbance aboard the flight was deemed a customer service issue and not a life-threatening matter and the airline handled the matter according to their policy for customer service related matters. No arrest was made.”

    Flight 679 Allegiant Wing Strikes Fuel Truck

    What: Allegiant Airlines MD-83 en route from Springfield Branson Airport to Orlando
    Where: Sanford Florida
    When: May 18, 2012 19:18
    Why: On the ground during taxi, the MD-83’s left wing struck a fuel truck.

    No injuries were reported. There was some minor damage to the airplane.

    Foz de Iguazu Helicopter Accident

    Where: Foz do Iguaçu Brazil
    When: Sept 25, 2012
    Who: 4 aboard
    Why: Taking off from the entrance of the National Park of Iguaçu,Foz do Iguaçu in western Paraná, the helicopter had a problem at the helipad and fell from a height of five feet.

    The company that owns the helicopter is a concessionaire of the National Paraque selling air tours over the Iguazu Falls.

    The four aboard the helicopter were wounded. The chopper was described as badly damaged. Three men and one woman were rushed to Hospital Costa Cavalcanti and to City hospital. There was one crewman aboard. The three passengers were tourists.

    Southwest Emergency Landing in Phoenix

    What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 en route from El Paso to Phoenix
    Where: Phoenix
    When: Jun 30th 2011, 9:33 pm
    Who: 139 aboard
    Why: On approach to Phoenix, the pilot declared emergency and shut down an engine when one of the engines failed. Some of the systems operating were backup systems. Details about the engine issues were not released but Southwest said there was an “issue with engine exhaust.”

    The plane made a safe landing at 9:33 with emergency services on standby, but taxied to the gate, and did not need towing.

    Maintenance is examining the plane.
