    Safair flight FA-102 made an emergency landing in Cape Town, South Africa, on February 21st.

    The plane took off for Johannesburg, South Africa, but had to turn back due to a technical issue.

    Lightheaded Pilots Make Emergency Landing at Heathrow

    What: British Airways A321 en route from London Heathrow to Glasgow
    Where: London
    When: Dec 20th 2011
    Who: pilot and co-pilot
    Why: After takeoff, pilots declared an emergency when they became lightheaded. They returned to Heathrow and made a safe landing. The problem was reported as a technical fault due to fumes or pressure problems in the cockpit. On declaration, pilots called for oxygen which was brought by cabin crew; and oxygen masks were apparently not released for the passengers. The flight made a safe landing. Paramedics were the first aboard, attending to the pilots.

    The replacement jet provided for the passengers took them to their destination with a three hour delay,

    Helicopter Crash in UK

    What: Helicopter out of Blackpool Airport
    Where: Barnaby Sands on the Lancashire coast near Fleetwood.
    When: 23 September 2009
    Who: Pilot and student: Pilot Steven Lewis, 38, from Rainhill, Merseyside, died along with Philip Gray, 45, of Mawdesley, Lancashire.
    Why: The helicopter crashed on a training flight. The pilot issued a mayday based on engine troubles, and steered away from populated areas, hoping to find a softer landing.

    SkyWest Airlines Flight Returns to Grand Forks After Bird Strikes

    SkyWest Airlines flight OO-4751 had to return and make an emergency landing in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on August 18th.

    The Canadair CRJ-200 plane took off for Minneapolis, Minnesota, but had to return shortly afterwards due to multiple bird strikes.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were thirty-three passengers and three crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Where: Louisville International Airport
    When: Tuesday afternoon 2:20 p.m.
    Who: 35 passengers and 4 crew members were on board
    Why: After smoke was reported in the cockpit, the plane made an emergency landing at moved on runway 17-L; then the plane was moved to airport’s cargo area.
