    2nd Emergency Landing on CA Highway


    What: Piper PA-28R-180 Arrow en route from Mammoth Lakes to Palomar Airport
    Where: I-15 & W. El Norte Pkwy, Escondido, CA
    When: July 22, 2012, 11:25 p,
    Who: 4 aboard
    Why: After the plane was rented, it ran out of gas en route. The pilot, Pilot Ken Gheysar, managed to make a safe landing on a highway in light traffic.

    No one was injured, but a 1996 Dodge Dakota pickup clipped the plane’s left wing while the plane was sitting on the shoulder.

    The pilot and his family were returning home from a weekend in Mammoth Lakes.

    It was towed by 8:20 a.m. with damage too severe to fly out.

    Plane Hits Airbridge

    On April 22, 2013 at 10:30am, a Los Angeles-Sydney-Melbourne flight damaged its wing while on the ground.

    The United Airlines Boeing 747-400 was pulling into an air bay when it struck the airbridge of a parking bay at the airport in Melbourne.

    Passengers disembarked by stairs. There were no injuries but the plane required repairs.

    AGENDA ANNOUNCED FOR NTSB FORUM ON LITHIUM ION BATTERIES


    April 8, 2013
    WASHINGTON – The National Transportation Safety Board today released the final agenda including the participants’ names, affiliations, and biographies for the forum on lithium ion batteries in transportation.

    The forum, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, April 11-12, starts at 9 am and will be held in the NTSB Board Room and Conference Center in Washington, DC.

    Representatives from government, industry and academia will serve as panelists during the forum and will address issues related to lithium ion battery technology and how it is used across transportation modes.

    Managers Indicted on Spanair Flight JK5022


    update

    Three Spanair managers, the Spanair shift supervisor at Madrid airport, the maintenance manager and the quality manager, indicted for “negligent homicide” for Spanair Flight JK5022 will be appearing before a judge between June 20 and 22.

    Malware in the mainframe software may have been involved in the crash.

    Two mechanics were also indicted.

    1 Dead, 1 Injured after Small Plane Crashes in Texas

    A small plane crashed near FM 2004 and FM Road 646 in Hitchcock, Texas, on October 4th.

    Authorities believe the plane crashed after it took off from Pearland Regional Airport.

    There were two people aboard at the time; one of them was killed while the other one was injured.

    The deceased was identified as 69-year-old Brian Arnott.

    Southwest Airlines Plane Lands in Emergency at LAX

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines Flight 1704 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport on September 20.

    The plane, en-route from Sacramento to Bob Hope Airport, Burbank, was diverted after its flaps malfunctioned during the flight.

    The plane landed safely and no one was injured.

    The airline said the plane “has been taken out of service for inspection and repairs”.
