    What: Continental Airlines Boeing 737-900 en route from Panama City (Panama) to Newark,NJ
    Where: Panama City
    When: November 18, 2011
    Who: 176 aboard
    Why: After takeoff, while climbing out of Panama City, the Continental flight suffered a bird strike. After ingesting the bird, the left engine surged, and caught on fire. Pilots shut down the engine, and returned to Tocumen Airport where they made a safe landing.

    EasyJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Spain

    EasyJet flight U2-6950 had to return and make an emergency landing at Tenerife–South Airport, Spain, on January 1st.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Edinburgh Airport, Scotland, but had to turn back due to indication of an open door.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Air Tindi Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Great Slave Lake

    Air TindiAn Air Tindi Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft had to make an emergency landing on the ice of Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories of Canada, on November 20.

    According to a military spokesperson, the aircraft’s engine stopped working due to bad weather after it departed from Yellowknife with 7 people aboard. The pilot wanted to land back in Yellowknife but could not make it to the air field. The flight was on its way to Fort Simpson at the time.

    According to an Air Tindi news release, “Under very difficult weather conditions, the Caravan pilot was able to land the aircraft safely and evacuate the passengers.” All passengers were airlifted with no major injuries.

    The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

    Austrian Airlines Plane Diverts to Germany due to Loss in Cabin Pressure

    Austrian Airlines flight OS-378 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Erfurt–Weimar Airport, Erfurt, Germany, on July 23rd.

    The Airbus A319-100 flying from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Vienna, Austria, had to divert due to loss in cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 145 passengers remained safe.

    Dallas-Bound American Airlines Flight Diverts to Memphis

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight 2398 made an emergency landing in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 14th.

    The plane, heading from Nashville, Tennessee, to Dallas, Texas, was diverted due to smell of smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 141 passengers and 5 crew members remained safe.

    Air India Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai

    Air India Express flight IX-611 had to make an emergency landing in Mumbai, India, on October 12th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Tiruchirappalli, India, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was diverted after the airport officials informed the crew that the plane may have impacted localizer antenna and wall during departure.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and thirty passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    The plane sustained substantial damage.
