Why: Just after takeoff, a bird flew into the engine. The flight landed safely with no injuries reported (nor how the stranded passengers were handled.)

EgyptAir: 3 Alerts Before the Plane Left Radar. Fire on board.
Several different alerts on this plane went off immediately prior to the plane disappearing from the radar, including 1) issues with the windows on the co-pilot’s side of the plane; 2) two smoke alerts, the first one “SMOKE LAVATORY SMOKE” at 00:26 a.m. local time; 3) the second one “AVIONICS SMOKE” at 00:27 a.m. The second alert refers smoke in the avionics bay, which is located below the cockpit, and is where the electronics are housed.
This is also the same plane that was vandalised two years ago at Cairo Airport. In Arabic someone, presumably Cairo Airport workers, wrote on its belly, “We will bring this plane down.”
It is a special concern that the plane had flown to Eritrea.
The US State Department has a standing travel warning for Eritrea, and is quoted as saying “security at the Asmara airport ‘can be unpredictable,’ and had a ‘lack of efficiency and consistency” in screening passengers.'”
The search for Egyptair is still underway.
On the search for Egyptair Flight MS804
According to AV:
“on 2016/06/01, Egypt’s Civil Aviation Authority reported “Laplace” located pings presumably from one of MS804’s black boxes. The vessel “John Lethbridge” of DOS will be joining the search team to retrieve the black boxes. The BEA (FR)confirmed that Egyptian Authorities have confirmed a “signal that may come from one of the recorders” of flight MS-804. The BEA did NOT confirm that a black box has been located.”
Debris has been found.
Bulgaria Airbus Lands with Engine in Pieces, Leaking

What: Bulgaria Air Airbus A320-200 en route from Sofia to Moscow
Where: Sofia
When: Dec 10 2010
Who: 29 passengers and 7 crew
Why: On takeoff, part of the engine fell off, and the affected engine began leaking. The crew reported the problem and returned to Sofia to make a safe landing. A replacement jet was provided.
Aer Lingus Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Shannon Airport
Aer Lingus flight EI-145 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on December 28th.
The Airbus A330-200 plane heading from Dublin, Ireland, to Los Angeles, California, was diverted due to an engine fire indication.
The plane landed safely. All two hundred and sixty-two passengers and eleven crew members remained unharmed.
JetBlue Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bermuda
A JetBlue flight had to divert and make an emergency landing at LF Wade International Airport in Bermuda, on August 26th.
The incident happened when the Airbus A320, carrying 94 people, was heading from Boston to Puerto Rico.
According to a Department of Marine and Port Services report, “A 51-year-old female passenger was experiencing oxygen tank problems and required assistance while the aircraft crew reported mechanical problems with the cockpit floor suffering distortion suspected to be caused by heat.”
The plane landed uneventfully and everyone aboard remained unharmed.

What: GENESUS ONE INC owned single-engine Skylane Cessna en route to Essex County Airport
Where: emergency landing outside the Rockaway Townsquare Mall
When: Tuesday August 25 2009
Who: pilot and a female passenger
Why: After the engine began running “rough” during a training flight, the plane was forced to land where it could–outside the Rockaway Townsquare Mall. The pilot and passenger only had minor injuries and were taken to hospital. The plane suffered minor damage to the front end.
Turkish Airlines Flight Returns to Izmir After Bird Strike
Turkish Airlines flight TK-2909 had to return and make an emergency landing in Izmir, Turkey, on February 28th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Istanbul, Turkey, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.
The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.
