    A330 and A340 Landing Gear Airworthiness Directive

    EASA Emergency AD No.: 2011-0122-E has been published limiting the life of A330 and A340 landing gear parts.

    During ground load test cycles on an A340-600 aeroplane, the MLG bogie beam prematurely fractured. The results of the investigation identified that this premature fracture was due to high tensile standing stress, resulting from dry fit axle assembly method. Improvement has been introduced subsequently with a grease fit axle assembly method.

    Allegiant Air Flight Diverts to St. Petersburg Due to Bad Weather

    AllegiantAllegiant Air flight 977 had to make an emergency landing at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport in St. Petersburg, Florida, at 7:53 p.m. on July 3.

    The MD-83 aircraft, en-route to Putna Gorda in Florida, from Asheville, North Carolina, had to divert because of bad weather conditions.

    According to Allegiant, the pilot had to declare emergency before landing when an “indicator light” indicated a “maintenance issue” in the plane.

    The plane, carrying 146 passengers and 6 crew members, landed uneventfully.

    The passengers were adjusted in a replacement flight.

    The issue is being investigated.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in San Francisco

    United Airlines flight UA-1721 had to return and make an emergency landing in San Francisco, California, on April 16th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane heading to Kona, Hawaii, had to turn back due to a mechanical issue.

    The plane landed back safely. All 183 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Delta Airlines Flight Rejects Takeoff in Michigan due to Engine Failure

    Delta Airlines flight DL-1633 had to reject takeoff at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Detroit, Michigan, on December 21st.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-88 was accelerating to takeoff for Miami, Florida, when the crew reported the failure of left hand engine.

    The plane returned to the apron.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

    Piedmont Airlines Flight Returns to Philadelphia

    PiedmontPiedmont Airlines flight PDT-4839 had to return and make an emergency landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 27th.

    The plane took off for Elmira, New York, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a hydraulic issue.

    The plane landed safely. There were 32 passengers and 3 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.
