    Border Security Force Plane Crashed in New Delhi; 10 Killed

    A Border Security Force (BSF) plane crashed near Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Dehli, India, on December 22.

    The Beech SuperKing B200 aircraft, carrying 10 BSF personnel, went down just after taking off from the Delhi airport. Authorities believe the plane’s left engine stopped working, causing it to crash into the wall of airport’s sewage treatment plant and ending up in the water.

    All ten personnel aboard the plane were killed in the crash.

    The accident is being investigated.

    Knik Glacier Rescue Update

    What: Black Hawk rescue helicopter
    Where: Knik Glacier Alaska
    Why: Attempting to rescue the five stranded on a glacier since Sunday afternoon, a Black Hawk rescue helicopter was damaged sliding and rolling on the glacier. The Air National Guard helicopter was forced to turn around.

    It took a day for the pararescue team (which arrived yesterday) to ski the three miles to the survivors with two days worth of supplies. More supplies have been dropped.

    Tuesday night, two of the original left stranded and one rescuer were flown to Palmer.

    Military Fokker Crashes in Jakarta Neighborhood


    What: Tentara Nasional Indonesia-AU (Air Force) Fokker F-27 Friendship 400M
    Where: Jakarta Indonesia
    When: June 21, 2012, 15:00 hrs.
    Who: 7 aboard
    Why: The flight was engaged in maneuvers when it crashed into a Jakarta neighborhood in the Rajawali housing complex (the Air Force Eagle Complex, at Halim Perdanakusuma airport.). It is reported that everyone aboard the flight except the co-pilot died in the crash. The co-pilot survived; and several people inside the buildings also died on the ground. A fireball erupted in the neighborhood. Some residents were hospitalized with burns.

    Major Flight Heri Setiawan (captain pilot), Sergeant Major Simulanto, Sahroni Flight Lieutenant, Captain Agus Supriyadi Engineering, Purwo First Sergeant, Master Sergeant Wahyudi (Engineering Squadron 021) were confirmed killed in the crash.

    Skies were clear at the time of the accident.

    Columbus Police Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Parking Lot

    A Columbus police helicopter had to make an emergency landing in a parking lot in Columbus, Ohio, around midnight on April 30.

    Authorities said the helicopter’s pilot decided to land in emergency after a warning light went on.

    The plane safely landed near a shopping plaza in west Columbus. No one was injured.

    The helicopter was able to return to the police heliport early morning.

    Two Still Missing in Gulf Helicoptor Crash


    What: Helicopter owned by leasing company Rotorcraft en route to an unmanned oil rig platform 18-miles off-shore
    Where: Gulf of Mexico, about two miles below Sabine Pass at the border of Texas and Louisiana
    When: Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008
    Who: 5 on board. The pilot of the helicopter was identified as Joe Laugelle
    Why: Cause is under investigation; however there was a weather advisory in effect at the time of the crash

    At the time of the crash, air temp was 36 degrees; water temp 62 degrees. Wind was from the west at 23 knots, and there was a weather advisory. The three crew members who were recovered were wearing personal floatation devices. A search is ongoing for two others. All four passengers were crew members for a contract customer of Rotorcraft.

    Gyro Crashes in German Field

    What: Fliegmituns.de AutoGyro Europe MTOsport
    Where: near Breitscheid Airfield, Germany
    When: July 15, 2011 at 15:10
    Who: 2 fatalities
    Why: On approach to Breitscheid, the Gyrocopter went into a tailspin, fell like a stone, and crashed in a field. The 59 year old pilot and the 26 year old passenger (who had received the flight as a birthday gift from his girlfriend) both died on the scene, 150 meters from the runway.

    The pilot had been an Air Force transport pilot, and worked for the Defense Department, and an Airbus captain.

    Both the pilot and the passenger are being autopsied in order to exclude heart attack or illness as a cause for the accident.
