    Cessna Crashes in Cornfield

    What: 1976 Cessna 182P Skylane
    Where: near Kewanee Municipal Airport
    When: Nov 23, 2009 , 5:45 pm
    Who: pilot Harold D. Middleton, his wife Peggy G. Middleton and their fourteen year old grandson Austin Middleton
    Why: A half a mile south of the airport, just after takeoff, the Cessna crashed in a corn field.

    Fourteen year old Austin walked across the corn field to the airport, following the airport lights through the dark.

    After reporting the accident, he was hospitalized, as was the pilot, his grandmother. His grandmother died at Kewanee Hospital.

    Washington Plane Crash Survivor Autumn Veatch

    autumnSixteen year-old Autumn Veatch tried to save her step-grandparents after she survived a fiery small plane crash impacting a Washington mountain. The Beech A35 aircraft struck Saturday and she survived two days on her own, after scrambling out of the burning plane with her hair on fire.She tried but could not rescue her grandmother, Sharon Bowman, nor her grandfather, Leland Bowman.

    The Beech A35 Bonanza crashed in the North Cascades, west of Mazama, WA between Kalispell and Lynden. Weather was a key factor in the accident. A second plane crashed into Twin Sisters mountain in the North Cascades on the same day.

    Small Plane Crashes in El Paso County; 2 Killed

    A small plane crashed near Palmer Lake in El Paso County, Colorado, on March 2nd.

    Authorities said the single-engine plane caught fire after the crash which also spread to the surrounding grass.

    FAA officials confirmed that both people aboard the plane were killed in the crash. Their identities have not yet been released.

    The NTSB are the FAA are investigating the cause of crash.

    Beechcraft Lost in Kentucky

    What: Island Trading Ltd. Hawker Beechcraft 58 en route from from Frederick, Maryland to Olive Branch MS
    Where: Leslie County
    When: April 27 2010
    Who: pilot and passenger
    Why: While en route, the plane lost contact, and is believed to have wrecked in eastern Kentucky, in a remote, mountainous area of Leslie County. It is believed the wreckage was located at 5:30 pm, with no survivors.

    2 Presumed Dead after Civilian Plane and Fighter Jet Collide Mid-air in Germany

    plane crashA military-chartered jet and a German Eurofighter aircraft collided mid-air in western Germany.

    Police officials confirmed that the Learjet had two people on-board when it collided with the fighter plane on June 23. They also revealed that both aircrafts were hit on the wing and the fuselage.

    The Learjet caught fire and crashed into a forested area in Sauerland region; both on-board have been presumed dead. The fighter jet was also badly damaged but it was able to land on its base in Norvenich near Cologne.

    Joerg Langer, a spokesperson of German military, said there had been a contact between a Eurofighter jet and a Learjet. He also confirmed that the Eurofighter landed safely.

    The Learjet was operated by an Airbus Defence and Space’s subsidiary, Gesellschaft für Flugzieldarstellung” (GFD), which assists German military in maneuvers.

    It is believed that the Learjet was involved in a training exercise along with two Eurofighters, one of which was involved in the accident.

    Home-built Experimental Aircraft Crashed in Fountain County: Pilot Killed

    experimental planeCharles Coffing of Covington, a 72-year-old man, was killed in a small plane crash in Fountain County, Indiana , near the Rob Roy covered bridge, north of Terre Haute.

    The accident happened at 1:30 p.m. on May 9.

    First-responders told that there was no sign of fire at the scene. Officials said that the plane was a home-built experimental aircraft approved by the FAA.

    One of the eye-witnesses said that the plane “came down nose first into the ground.”

    The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA are investigating the reasons of the crash.
