    9 Minute Turbo-Prop Emergency Over Big Sur

    What: Skywest Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia turbo-prop en route from Santa Barbara to San Francisco
    Where: Big Sur
    When: Feb 11, 2011
    Who: 29 passengers
    Why: After losing pressure over Big Sur at around 1 pm, the Skywest flight diverted to Monterey Peninsula Airport and made an emergency landing at 1:09 pm. The landing was made under emergency conditions with crews on standby, but there were no injuries. Some passengers complained to paramedics of ear problems and were examined. After passengers disembarked and were transported to their destinations, the flight crew flew on to San Francisco alone.

    LGW Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter Plane Returns to Germany due to Landing Gear Problem

    LGW Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter flight AB-8512 had to return and make an emergency landing at Berlin Tegel Airport, Tegel, Germany, on July 26th.

    The de Havilland Dash 8-400 flying on behalf of Air Berlin to Salzburg, Austria, had to return due to some issue with its landing gear.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 61 people aboard remained safe.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke in Cabin

    Ryanair flight FR-8886 had to make an emergency landing at Orio al Serio International Airport, Italy, on June 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Brindisi, Italy, was descending toward Orio al Serio Airport when the crew reported smoke in the cabin and declared an emergency.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Jazz Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Montreal

    jazzJazz flight QK-8696 made an emergency landing in Montreal, Canada, on October 30th.

    The plane took off for Sept Iles, Quebec, Canada, but had to turn back after the crew reported difficulties in flying left turns.

    The plane safely landed back in Montreal. There were 27 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    What: First Air Boeing 767-200 en route from Ottawa to Iqaluit
    Where: Iqaluit
    When: Dec 12th 2009
    Who: 4 crew
    Why: The runway was not clear (assuming this means weather /precipitation) and after takeoff, airspeed dropped as the plane climbed, and the plane nearly stalled. The flight continued to its destination. Flight data was analyzed after the fact, and it was concluded that airspeed had dropped, and that the safety management system needed adjustment

    Montreal Traffic Chopper Down

    What: Quebec television network TVA Robinson R44 Raven II Traffic helicopter
    Where: Montreal, Quebec west of the Victoria Bridge, in the city’s south end 700 metres from Mel’s Studios, which has a helicopter landing strip
    When: DEC 16, 2009 7:30 am
    Who: pilot Antoine Léger and passenger journalist Réjean Léveillé
    Why: TV network helicopter experienced engine problems and mechanical failure over a vacant lot, and crashed while attempting an emergency landing.

    The helicopter had been refurbished; and the pilot has 12 years of flying experience.

    There was no fire.

    The pilot was able to exit on his own; he and the passenger suffered multiple fractures and were taken to Montreal General Hospital.
