    Where: Rome
    When: Dec 24/5 2009
    Who: 300 aboard
    Why: While en route, the crew received an indication of a problem (not released.) The flight diverted to Rome where the problem was handled, and then the flight continued to its destination.

    Air France Plane Returns to Paris due to Hydraulic Failure

    Air FranceAir France flight AF-524 had to return and make an emergency landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, on November 25th.

    The plane took off for Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, but had to turn back due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Allegiant Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Savannah

    Allegiant Air flight 738 made an emergency landing in Savannah, Georgia, on April 27th.

    Passengers reported that the plane flying from Orlando, Florida, to Elmira/Corning Regional Airport, New York, was diverted due to electrical issues.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Ural Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Tail Strike

    Ural Airlines flight U6-9785 made an emergency landing in Yekaterinburg, Russia, on December 14th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off from Ufa, Russia, but suffered a tail strike on departure.

    The crew continued the takeoff and subsequently decided to land in Yekaterinburg.

    The flight was originally bound for Nizhnevartovsk, Russia.

    American Airlines Plane Diverts to Shannon Airport

    American EagleAmerican Airlines flight AA-141 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on June 16th.

    The Boeing 777-200, en-route from Heathrow Airport, United Kingdom, to John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, was diverted after the crew reported a battery discharge issue.

    The plane landed safely. All 100 people aboard remained unhurt.

    British Airways Flight Forced to Change Direction Due to Spanish Military Jet

    British airwaysBritish Airways flight A490 was forced to change its direction due to a Spanish military surveillance jet flying nearby in Gibraltar, on October 31.

    According to the authorities, the Ejército del Aire P3 aircraft, which was flying ahead of the British Airways plane, ‘suddenly reversed its direction and took another course’, entering the flight path of Airbus A320. The air traffic controllers then asked the British Airways plane, which was around 10 to 15 miles from landing in Gibraltar, to change direction in order to maintain safe distance.

    According to a statement released by Gibraltar authorities on Monday, “The Government of Gibraltar is waiting for a full report on the incident, which will clarify whether the Spanish military plane made an incursion into the airspace over British Gibraltar territorial waters.”
