    Icy Plane Crashes in Albany County Wyoming


    What: twin-engine Beechcraft en route to Saratoga
    Where: in Albany County Wyoming
    When: early Saturday
    Who: pilot Rick Corey and passenger Larry Rice. Both men were unhurt
    Why: The plane began to lose altitude near Rock River because of ice buildup on the wings. On landing, the plane clipped a power line, missed (or avoided) the highway and ended up in a field.

    What: Aerocon Swearingen SA-227 Metroliner en route from Santa Cruz to Trinidad Bolivia
    Where: Trinidad
    When: Sep 6th 2011
    Who: 7 passengers, 2 crew
    Why: On final approach to Trinidad, the pilots lost contact with ATC.

    The instrument approach to the airport requires overflying North and then turning back.
    The last contact was reporting the flight was “in the procedure turn” but the flight did not land on the runway, and is currently considered to be missing in a mountainous area.

    Plane Crash in Mojave Desert Kills 2

    A Beechcraft Bonanza crashed in the Clark Mountain Range of the Mojave Desert, near the border of Nevada and San Bernardino County, on January 20.

    The plane, registered to Van Pray of California City, was en-route from California City to Henderdon, Nevada, when it was reported missing. The search operation began shortly afterwards however, it was not until next day that the wreckage was located.

    Both people aboard the plane were killed in the accident. Their identities have not yet been released.

    The accident is under investigation.

    NY Tourist Helicopter Crashes in East River, 1 Birthday Fatality, 4 Rescued

    What: Paul P. Dudley Bell 206B JetRanger
    Where: East River, New York, NY
    When: Oct 4, 2011
    Who: 5 aboard, 1 fatality
    Why: The Bell 206B JetRanger was en route with five people aboard when it took off to about 25 feet above ground, and spun, then crashed for an unknown reason upside down into the East River. The flight had just taken off from the riverbank launch pad. Two people were injured, one was missing. Four individuals were rescued from the water, including the pilot. While the helicopter was submerged, rescuers searched for the fifth passenger, Sonia Marra Nicholson, but did not find her until it was too late. The chopper had sunk 50 feet into the water. Nicholson had been visiting New York on the occasion of her 40th birthday.

    THe passengers who were rescued were Nicholson’s partner Helen Tamaski, her mother Harriet Nicholson and her stepfather Paul Nicholson, all of whom are in stable condition at Bellevue and New York University Hospitals. Paul and Harriet Nicholson live in Portugal but are British citizens. Sonia Marra Nicholson and Helen Tamaski lived in Australia.

    The pilot Paul Dudley also survived. The passengers were close personal friends. He manages the Linden, N.J., airport.

    Rescuers included police officers who where on hand, running a drill on the East River, and who, still in uniform, jumped in to assist passengers.

    Beechcraft Baron Crashes in Brazil killing 4

    What: Norte Táxi Aéreo Beechcraft 95-B55 Baron en route from Cametá to Baião
    Where: Cametá, PA Brazil
    When: Feb 16 2012, 10:00 am
    Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
    Why: The Taxi service plane crashed not long after takeoff, killing the pilot, copilot and two security guards who worked transporting money for a bank. A fire ensued after the crash, and rescuers found the bodies were charred.

    The crash occurred a kilometer from the runway. The airport fire department team responded. Seripa (regional research and prevention of Aviation Accidents) is investigating.

    Santa Sleigh Sustains minor Damage

    Dec 22, 2012, private DBS Santa Clause Santa Supersleigh 100F #NP-001 taking off from the North Pole Cargoport Airfield, sustained a runway excursion.

    A reindeer-powered experimental Santa SuperSleigh 100F sustained minor damage when it veered off the left side of runway 31 during its takeoff at the North Pole Cargoport Airfield, North Pole, and struck runway lights. The instrument rated captain was not injured. The airplane was registered to and operated by a private individual dba Santa Claus as a nonscheduled international cargo flight. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident, with snowfall.

    The pilot reported that there was snow and ice on the runway. He reported that a strong crosswind gust forced the experimental airplane to veer off the left side of the runway where the it struck runway lights. The pilot managed to get the SuperSleigh back on the runway and stop.
    A postaccident inspection of the airplane revealed minor damage and the flight was able to continue after repairs.
