    Martinair Plane Diverts to Shannon Airport due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    Martinair flight MP-7342 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on May 12th.

    The Boeing 747-400 freighter plane heading from Miami, Florida, to Amsterdam, Netherlands, was diverted after the crew received a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Qantas Lands in Sydney after Engine Shut Down

    What: Qantas Boeing 747-400 en route Sydney to Singapore
    Where: Sydney
    When: Mar 30th 2010
    Who: 414 aboard
    Why: While en route, a right engine experienced an engine surge. That engine had to be shut down. The crew had to dump fuel and return to Sydney where they made a safe landing about an hour after departure. Passengers were provided a replacement plane.

    Boeing Lands Safely on Nose-Gear Maypops

    What: US Airways Boeing 737-400 en route from Philadelphia to Tampa
    Where: Tampa
    When: Jun 27th 2009
    Who: 138 passengers and 5 crew
    Why: After a normal flight, on landing, both nose gear tires blew. Nose gear wheels and strut were damaged.

    Passengers disembarked via roll-up stairs thru the back of the plane. No injuries were reported. It took 8 hours to clear the runway after the incident. Mechanics are looking at a landing gear problem as the cause of the incident.

    Billy Mays was interviewed after debarking.

    United Airlines Plane Returns to Shannon Airport

    HT_United_Airlines1_MEM_151006_12x5_1600United Airlines flight UA-67 had to return and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on May 27th.

    The Boeing 757-200 took off for Chicago, Illinois, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 108 passengers and 9 crew members remained unhurt.

    787 Dreamliner Certified

    The flight marked the completion of flight tests required for type certification of the 787 Dreamliner with Rolls-Royce engines. The 787 test fleet has flown just over 1,700 flights. The Dreamliner was put through hundreds of stalls to certify it can recover.

    Aerolineas Argentinas Plane Suffers Drone Strike in Buenos Aires

    Aerolineas Argentinas flight AR-1865 suffered a drone strike near Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 11th.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Trelew, Argentina, was on final approach to Aeroparque Jorge Newbery.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
