    Austrian Airlines flight OS-509 made an emergency landing at Milan Malpensa Airport, Italy, on February 25th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane flying from Vienna, Austria, was descending toward Milan Malpensa Airport when the crew reported an unusual smell in the cabin.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Thomson Airways Jet Makes Emergency Landing at Cardiff Airport

    Thomson airwaysThomson Airways flight TOM6555 had to make an emergency landing at Cardiff Airport, United Kingdom, on September 19.

    The plane was preparing to land at the airport when its landing flaps failed, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency. The flight was en-route from Tenerife, Spain at the time.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were around 200 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    An airline spokesperson said, “The safety of our customers and crew is of paramount importance and we would like to reassure customers that this type of situation is extremely rare.”

    Avior Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ecuador

    Avior Airlines flight 9V-1260 made an emergency landing in Manta, Ecuador, on November 19th.

    The Boeing 737-200 plane heading from Barcelona, Venezuela, to Guayaquil, Ecuador, was diverted after an engine started emitting loud bangs and the passenger oxygen masks deployed.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All eighty-one passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    Tunisair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Saudi Arabia

    tunisairTunisair flight TU-914 made an emergency landing at Prince Mohammed bin Abdul-Aziz International Airport in Medina, Saudi Arabia, on February 27th.

    The pilots declared emergency after a fire broke out in Airbus A330-200 plane’s left engine. The flight was heading from Medina, Saudi Arabia, to Tunis, Tunisia, at the time.

    The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.

    Why: A sensor reported a fire in the cargo bay, but after the plane diverted to Jackson, no smoke or fire was found.

    The plane will continue to Memphis on Saturday.

    The temperature in Jackson was 93, and the heat index was 101.`

    Air Tran Emergency Landing in Greenville

    What: AirTran Airways Boeing 717-200 en route from Charlotte to Atlanta
    Where: Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport
    When: May 4, 2011
    Who: 115 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: The flight took off as usual but while en route, the twin engine plane developed a problem in one engine, with the compressor stalling. The left engine had to be shut down.

    The flight diverted to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport where they made a safe landing.
