    Small Plane Lands Nose Down in Oklahoma City

    A small plane made an emergency landing at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 19th.

    Authorities said the pilot of King Air B200 plane declared an emergency after the nose landing gear failed to deploy.

    The plane landed nose down and sustained significant damage.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained unharmed.

    What: Easyjet Airbus 319 en route from Gatwick to Lanzarote
    Where: Nantes
    When: Sunday November 29, 8.30am.
    Who: 136 passengers
    Why: After a takeoff during stormy weather, the plane was struck by lightning. The plane returned to London and made a safe landing. After landing, the plane was checked out and deemed safe, and went on to make the flight to Lanzarote.

    A passenger describes the experience.

    “There was a huge flash and a loud bang. The plane shuddered and there was quite a lot of turbulence, the worst I’ve ever experienced. Then the aircraft suddenly dropped dramatically and some people were quite scared. As we landed back in Gatwick, we had fire-engines chasing us down the runway.”

    Air Canada Plane Diverts to Toronto after Hydraulic Failure

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC-822 had to divert to and make an emergency landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Canada, on April 9th.

    The Airbus A319-100, en-route from Saint John’s, NL, Canada, to London, UK, was mid-air above Atlantic Ocean when the crew reported failure of the hydraulic system, prompting the plane to return to Saint John’s but instead diverted to Toronto due to bad weather.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All passengers onboard remained unharmed.

    British Airways Flight Returns to Heathrow Airport due to Flaps Problem

    British Airways flight BA-27 had to return and make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on February 8th.

    The Airbus A380-800 plane took off for Hong Kong, China, but had to turn back due to an issue with the flaps.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Andes Approach Is a Bumpy Ride

    Where: Santiago Chile
    When: Aug 6th 2012
    Who: 306 aboard, 8 injured
    Why: While en approach to Santiago, the pilots encountered severe turbulence. The Andes area is well known area for turbulence (Aconcagua mountain (22,831 ft)

    The pilots made a safe landing. Six flight attendants were injured.

    What: Eurolot Polish Airlines Eurolot ATR 72 en route from Krakaw to Warsaw
    Where: John Paul II Balice International Airport, Warsaw Poland
    When: April 29 2010
    Who: 27 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: In mid flight, the pilot detected cabin pressure problems, and had inconsistent readings. He reduced his altitude to handle the cabin pressure, and told ATC he would be crash-landing; however, the landing was normal.
