What: Delta en route from Dayton to Atlanta
Where: Chattanooga
When: July 13 10:45 am
Why: En route to Atlanta, the pilot smelled smoke and decided to land at the nearest airport which happened to be Chattanooga.
Compass Airlines flight DL-5689 made a safe emergency landing at Denver International Airport, Denver, Colorado, on May 20th.
The Embraer ERJ-175, heading from Utah, to Colorado, was mid-air when the crew reported a blown tyre and requested emergency services on standby.
The plane received minor damage.
All 79 people onboard remained unharmed.
A vintage Spitfire plane made a crash-landing in a field in Woodchurch, Kent, England, on the morning of September 7.
The plane crashed when the 68-year-old pilot, identified as Rob Davies MBE, was trying to make an emergency landing due to engine failure.
The plane sustained significant damage.

The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Katowice, Poland, was on final approach to Liverpool when the crew requested emergency assistance, reporting that a smartphone in the cabin had started emitting smoke.
The crew secured the phone while the plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained safe.
Nordic Regional Airlines flight AY-203 had to return and make an emergency landing in Helsinki, Finland, on April 7th.
The plane took off for Kokkola, Finland, but had to turn back after the crew reported a gear problem.
The plane landed back uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
