What: Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Prague
Where: Prague
When: Jan 14th 2012
Why: On approach to Prague, the plane developed a flaps problem. Pilots could not correct the problem, and aborted the landing. Still unable to correct, the flight made a fast landing with emergency services on standby.

Apparently the problem was fixed, as the plane only was an hour late on its return flight.

Germania Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Berlin

Germania flight ST-4926 had to return and make an emergency landing in Berlin, Germany, on April 29th.

The Boeing 737-700 plane took off for Las Palmas, Spain, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.

The plane landed safely. All one hundred and twenty passengers and five crew members remained unharmed.

Where: Bull Mountain, seven miles from Blue Ridge Airport,
When: October 24 2004
Who: 2 pilots 10 passengers
Why: On October 24 2004, en route to theNextel Cup Series, a Beechcraft Super King Air 200 owned by Hendrick Motorsports crashed in fog into Bull Mountain, seven miles from Blue Ridge Airport, carrying two pilots and ten passengers. Fatalities included Jon Hendrick and his twin daughters,and Ricky Hendrick. The plane missed its first landing attempt before veering off course and crashing; and the plane had not climbed to its temporarily assigned altitude of 2,600 feet; it instead descended to 1,800 feet before crashing. The cause was ruled failure to use an instrument approach and pilot error

Canada Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Burlington

What: Air Canada/Air Georgian Beechcraft 1900D turboprop en route from Hartford, Conn’s Bradley International Airport to Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport
Where: Burlington International Airport
When: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2009 5:35 p.m.
Who: 14 on board, 12 passengers
Why: When the plane’s left engine pressure dropped too low, the Air Canada plane made an emergency landing, leaking oill and on one engine, but essentially intact. (Reports do not say so, but the pilot probably shut down the engine as a precaution. One presumes this is because landing on one engine is better than landing on one working engine and one engine on fire.) Passengers debarked on to the tarmac and were carried by shuttle to the terminal.

A passenger is quoted as saying that the only way he knew there was anything wrong was “all the fire engines chasing us down the runway.” Another passenger described the fight as being scary (what if the other engine went?), but that the crew was totally in control, calm and amazing.

Air India Express Flight Returns to Mumbai due to Hydraulic Failure

Air India Express flight IX-247 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mumbai, India, on January 6th.

The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but had to turn back due to a hydraulic failure.

The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventy-seven passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

Why: Thirty minutes into the flight, the cabin developed pressurization problems and requested to fly at a lower altitude. Over Canada, the crew requested to fly even lower. 7 hours into the flight, the plane made an emergency landing in Anchorage.
