    What: Air Canada Airbus A320-200 en route from Toronto,ON to Winnipeg,MB
    Where: Winnipeg
    When: May 3rd 2009
    Who: 148 people on board
    Why: When the flight crew discovered low hydraulics fluid, they turned off the system, declared an emergency and flew on to Winnipeg without hydraulics. Just prior to landing, the hydraulics were re-initiated and the plane landed safely. According to the the Aviation Herald’s May 04 report, the “O-ring on the brakes servo valve needed to be replaced. ”

    It’s difficult to argue with a safe landing.

    Though it is impossible from our perspective to say whether this dangerous situation occurred due to maintenance failure or regular wear and tear, the Air Canada flight crew is to be commended for successfully landing without any injuries, and handling the situation in such a practical manner.

    Emergency Update: Plane for Sale

    What: Challenger II Special (described as a step up from ultralight aircraft)
    Where: south of the County Airport in a field at 695 Township Road 1275.
    When: 12:40 p.m
    Who: Pilot and plane owner Jeffrey K. Edmondson with 29 years of flying experience.
    Why: When Edmondson’s new plane’s engine decided to quit when he cut the throttle, Edmonson decided to quit the plane. (Since he did make a safe landing.) The plane has sensitive rudder controls which require a lot of practice, which hopefully the buyer will be able to get. Although Edmondson was in the process of registering the plane, it is now for sale.

    Small Plane Carrying Two Crashes in Nova Scotia

    A small plane crashed in a wooded area in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada, on August 16th.

    The single-engine plane was carrying two people when it crashed into trees.

    Both occupants were able to walk after the crash.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Cessna Makes a Nose-Down Landing in Texas

    CessnaA single-engine Cessna plane made an emergency landing at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport, located in Spring, Texas, on November 10.

    The pilot declared emergency after the aircraft’s nose landing gear failed to deploy.

    After circling over the airport for about 30 minutes, the aircraft successfully made a nose down landing shortly after 5 p.m. The pilot and his only passenger remained uninjured.

    The FAA is investigating.

    United Express Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Redding

    United ExpressA United Express jet made an emergency landing in Redding, California, on July 13th.

    The plane took off for San Francisco, California, but had to return shortly afterwards after its landing gear failed to retract completely.

    The plane landed safely. All 53 passengers aboard remained unhurt.

    Fog Diverts Delhi Flight to Patna

    What: Go Airways en route from Lucknow to Delhi
    Where: Patna
    When: October 22, 2010
    Why: While en route, weather (fog) developed in Delhi, and the flight diverted to Patna where it made a safe landing. There were no injuries. However the passengers were upset, as they pressured for information about when they would be able to continue to Delhi.
