    Passengers Applaud after Airlink Flight Made Safe Emergency Landing

    AirlinkA fully packed Airlink’s Avro RJ-85 jet had to divert and make an emergency landing at King Shaka International Airport, Durban, at 9:15 p.m. on August 10.

    The incident happened when the flight 4Z-8732/SA-8732 was on its way from Pietermaritzburg Airport to Johannesburg, South Africa.

    According to Albert Morudi, the acting executive manager- Accident and Incident Investigation Division of SA Civil Aviation Authority, the landing gear of the aircraft did not retract after takeoff. Therefore, the pilot decided to divert and make emergency landing.

    The crew asked the passengers to sit in brace position due to possibility of gear collapse on landing, however, the plane landed safely. Upon landing, the passengers praised the performance of pilots and flight crew by clapping. One of the passengers, Bruce Gordon said, “When we realized everything was okay, and we had landed safely, everyone started clapping. I didn’t realize how nervous I had been until I felt how sore my neck was.”

    Scandinavian Airlines Flight Returns to Spain due to Cabin Pressure Problems

    Scandinavian Airlines flight SK-7736 had to return and make an emergency landing in Las Palmas, Spain, on December 1st.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Billund, Denmark, but had to turn back due to issues with the cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    3 Killed, 7 Injured as Plane Crashes in Alaska

    crashA small floatplane plane crashed north of Iliamna Airport in Iliamna, Alaska, on September 15.

    The DeHavilland DHC-3T Turbine Otter aircraft, carrying 10 people, went down while it was taking off from East Wind Lake.

    Three people were killed in the accident. They were identified as 80-year-old Tony W. Degroot, of Hanford, California, 69-year-old James Specter, of Shavertown, Pennsylvania and 70-year-old James P. Fletcher, of Clovis, California.

    Seven others were injured and were shifted to hospitals.

    The plane belonged to Rainbow King Lodge.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    Expressjet Plane Returns to Norfolk after Engine Failure

    ExpressJetExpressjet flight EV-5419 had to return and make an emergency landing in Norfolk, Virginia, on August 11th.

    The plane took off for Detroit, Michigan, but had to return shortly afterwards after the right hand engine stopped working.

    The plane landed safely. All 62 people aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Piper Crash in Mississippi


    What: Superior Pallet Co. Piper PA-32-300 Cherokee Six
    Where: Jackson, Miss
    When: Nov 13, 2012, 5:00pm
    Who: 3 fatalities, 1 injured
    Why: Three people aboard the Piper that crashed in Jackson Mississippi died at the scene.

    The residence of hLoretta and Roosevelt Jamison went up in flames after the plane impacted. Ironically, the plane had been en route to an FAA safety conference.

    The pilot had taken off but once underway requested to return to the airport. Witnesses reported the engine sputtering but the plane did not make it back to the airport, and crashed in the residence.

    One person was in the house when the accident occurred and she was able to climb through a bedroom window to safety. She is being treated at University of Mississippi Medical Center.

    The plane belonged to Roger and Michele Latham, but Latham and his wife and daughter were not aboard. The fatalities included Latham’s flight instructor John Edward Tilton Jr.and two passengers en route to the FAA safety conference.

    American Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Columbia Metropolitan Airport

    american airlinesAmerican Airlines flight 2777 made an emergency landing at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, South Carolina, on November 27.

    According to the airline, the plane was heading from Dallas to Columbia when it experienced mechanical issues and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 39 passengers and 3 crew members remained uninjured.

    The plane was being operated by ExpressJet Airlines.
