The Airbus A330-300 plane heading from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Tokyo, Japan, was diverted due to issues with one of the engines.

What: British Airways Boeing 767-300 en route from London to Nassau Bahamas
Where: Gander Canada
When: Dec 8th 2009
Who: 147 passengers
Why: While over the atlantic, crew detected the smell of smoke in the cabin. The flight diverted to Gander, where it was examined for 3.5 hours, and no traces or problems reported. Passengers continued on the same plane to Nassau.
Emirates flight EK-652 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Mumbai, India, on July 26th.
The Boeing 777-300 plane en-route from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to Male, Maldives, had to be diverted after smoke was noticed in the cockpit.
The plane landed safely. All 309 people aboard remained uninjured.
Qantas flight QF-73 had to return and make an emergency landing in Sydney, Australia, on October 20th.
The Boeing 747-400 plane took off for San Francisco, California, but had to turn back due to a technical issue.
The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: ETHIOPIAN Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Bamako Mali to Addis Ababa

Who: 150 passengers
Why: After circling N’Djamena for an hour and dumping fuel, the plane made an emergency landing in Chad on Thursday. The emergency was attributed to a radar problem. Earlier the same plane had electrical problems on an earlier leg of the flight.
Why does this sound to me like an accident waiting to happen? Maintenance! Please!! Let us not have more bad news!
American Airlines flight AA-5134 made an emergency landing at Tri-Cities Airport, Tennessee, on February 11th.
The plane heading from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Kentucky, was diverted due to a door indication.
The plane landed safely. All seventy-two people aboard remained unharmed
