    Helicopter Crash Near Gisborne Kills One

    A helicopter owned by Gisborne Helicopters crashed in Hawkes Bay at around 10:00 a.m. at a logging skid site on Paritu Road, Wharerata, in Gisborne, New Zealand.

    A 53-year-old Gisborne passenger was killed. The pilot had leg injuries, but is in stable condition. The helicopter was delivering supplies.

    Civil Aviation Authority is investigating. Various eye witnesses saw the event. Fire fighters, ambulance and police immediately reached at the scene.

    MACAIR emergency landing

    What: MacAir flight en route from Townsville to Mount Isa
    Where: 42-seat plane en route from Cloncurry airport, Queensland
    When: Jan 23 emergency call about 5.15pm
    Who: 21 passengers
    Why: News reports say that the pilot shut down the engine after a false mechanical warning. Passengers were taken the rest of the way to the airport (8 kilometers) by bus.

    Note: alternating reports on this same incident say the plane was (was not) hit by lightning and the plane had 40 (21) passengers.

    Spanish Military Helicopter Crashes in Atlantic Ocean; 3 Crew Members Missing

    helicopterA Spanish military helicopter crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, around 280 nautical miles from its destination on Gando air base, Gran Canaria Island, Spain, on October 22.

    The Super Puma helicopter, carrying a captain, a lieutenant and sergeant, went down after taking off from Mauritania. Authorities said the chopper had been involved in military exercises in Dakar, Senegal and stopped at Mauritania for refueling.

    All 3 crew members went missing after the crash. A search operation is underway.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Beechcraft Fatality in Texas Hill Country


    What: Western Wings Corp’s 1993 Beechcraft King Air 90 twin turboprop departed Hondo Municipal Airport at 12:10 p.m.
    Where: 30 miles west of Rocksprings, Texas in the Texas Hill Country (nearly eight miles down a dirt road east of Texas Highway 277)
    Who: Pilot George Anthony “Tony” Kuhn rated a commercial pilot for both single-engine and multi-engine planes and once a flight instructor.
    Why: Pilot reported that the autopilot controls failed and he was having trouble controlling the plane; an air traffic controller noticed the plane deviating from the flight plan, and lost radio contact at 24,000 feet.

    The plane which was listed as having 3,712 hours in the air, had been offered for sale tin 2008 for $2.2 million

    Jetstar Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Perth due to Brake Failure Indication

    JetstarJetstar flight JQ117 had to make an emergency landing at Perth airport in Australia, on October 16.

    The plane was flying from Denpasar, Indonesia, when the crew reported a brake failure indication and requested a ‘clear runway, for an emergency landing.’

    According to the airline, “Air traffic control asked the captain to conduct a holding pattern until the runway could be cleared for landing… Following a short period of holding, the captain landed the aircraft safely…. There was no issue with the aircraft braking system during the landing.”

    None of the 181 people aboard were injured.

    Hog Hunters Flipped in Chopper Bang-Up


    At 9 a m Jan 26,2013, a Hiller UH-12B helicopter crashed east of the St. Lucie-Okeechobee County line in a swamp between Okeechobee Road and Orange Avenue, west of the Adams Ranch The three men aboard,Pilot William Harward, and passengers Jonathan Strayer, 46, and Massad Ayoob, 64 were hospitalized at Raulerson Memorial Hospital.

    The helicopter had been chartered to “shoot feral hogs from a helicopter with .44 Magnum revolvers” a pastime that has been called pest eradication. A blog has released that the main rotor hit treetops, and the helicopter ended up upside down.
