Ecuador Crash Kills 7, Maybe More


What: twin-engine Beechcraft 200 propeller plane en route from Manta to Quito’s airport
Where: 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) from the airport near Hotel Quito
When: 5:20 pm (2220 GMT)
Who: seven people were killed: 5 aboard; 2 on the ground
Why: small military plane on a training flight clipped some tree tops and crashed into an apartment building. The reports list two buildings.
Initial reports said the deaths included the wife and son of the pilot, Major Julio Zaldumbide but we have not verified that information.

    1 Dead, 1 Injured after Small Plane Crashes in Texas

    A small plane crashed near FM 2004 and FM Road 646 in Hitchcock, Texas, on October 4th.

    Authorities believe the plane crashed after it took off from Pearland Regional Airport.

    There were two people aboard at the time; one of them was killed while the other one was injured.

    The deceased was identified as 69-year-old Brian Arnott.

    Piper Cherokee Lands on Longmont Road in Rush Hour Traffic


    What: PIPER PA-28-151 CHEROKEE, ARROW, WARRIOR, ACHER
    Where: Longmont
    When: 12/18/2011 5:36 pm
    Who: pilot
    Why: A pilot flying over Longmont had engine trouble and had to make an emergency landing.

    The pilot realized he could not make the airport, and maneuvered in position over the road. He managed to land on a busy road with substantial traffic but there was no impact and the plane and cars were undamaged. The pilot apparently coasted in with the engine off. Interview is below

    Denver Birdstrike under Investigation


    What: United Boeing 737-900 en route from Dallas to Denver
    Where: Denver
    When: Jul 31, 2012, 9:00 a.m.
    Who: 151 aboard
    Why: The Boeing was on approach when it suffered a bird strike in the nose cone. The bird strike did not affect the engine or landing gear.

    No one was injured. The birds remains are being identified by an ornithologist.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    Aerobatic Stunt Pilot Survives Fiery Plane Crash

    small planeOn Friday, April 18th 2014, Dan Marcotte, an experienced aerobatic stunt pilot survived a fiery plane crash by parachuting out of his single-passenger plane.

    The plane bursted into flames and crashed on interstate 89 near Burlington, Vermont, moments after he jumped out. Hearing the explosion, the fire fighters rushed to scene and found Marcotte’s parachute dandling from a tree.

    Vt. State Police Lt. Garry Scott said that Marcotte probably got the intuition that something was wrong with the plane, and he jumped out in time. He got some minor injuries, but his life is out of danger.

    Marcotte is well known for his amazing stunts at grand events like Independence Day celebrations on the Burlington waterfront.

    Missing Small Plane found; Wreckage in Lithuania

    After an all night search, a father and his ten year old son missing aboard a Aveko VL-3 Evolution ultralight were found in a marshland near the Lukna river in Paluknys, Lithuania near a wooded area.

    The plane went missing after dusk on April 19th and was not found until the 20th. Border guards and reconnaissance helicopters engaged in the search. The rescuers were unable to provide assistance to the victims. Police, aviation, safety experts, and disaster site rescue teams assisted in the search and recovery.

    Investigators suggest there was an engine failure and spin, leading to the accident, which occurred along the route where the craft would have turned.

    Dalius Aleksandravi?ius was a CEO, a graduate of Stockholm School of Economics and used to work for Met Life.

    Brazil Seizes Flight Control Data

    According to the Tam Airlines transcript, the pilots panicked, crying “Oh my God!, Oh my God!” as they tried to slow down the jetliner which landed with inoperable spoilers and a thrust reverser.

    “Come on! Come on! Turn, turn, turn, turn!” cried the co-pilot moments before a final utterance, “Oh no!,” was heard. The tape goes blank as the jetliner slammed into a cargo building at 137 mph and exploded.

    In the wake of the airliner crash in Sao Paulo last month, Brazil’s top prosecutor Matheus Baraldi Magnan, seized records from key flight control centers in response to concern over Brazil’s civil aviation system.

    Explaining the surprise data impoundment, Magnani said the military hindered his seizure, and “holds on to the information. It is not possible today to know the extent and frequency of problems. Only with that information will it be possible to evaluate and improve the system…The goal is to assure seizure of the incident records, and any information about problems in the air traffic control system, which will allow us to assess the risks passengers and crew face aboard aircraft.”

    The government confirmed that France and aircraft builder Airbus filed a complaint over leaks of the Tam airlines flight’s black box.

    The French bureau’s response on August third was that “All sorts of information, correct or incorrect, is circulating, along with speculation and attempts at explanations.”

    “It is a serious error to try to draw conclusions on the basis of incomplete and unanalyzed information.”

    A transcript of the cockpit voice recorder was released last week by a congressional committee investigating the accident on.
    July 17 when the TAM Airbus 320 carrying 187 people overran the runway while landing at Sao Paulo’s Congonhas airport, crossed a road and slammed into an airport building.
