    Lion Air Plane Crashes in Indonesia; 189 Feared Dead

    Lion Air flight JT-610 crashed into the Java Sea in Indonesia, on October 29th.

    The incident happened shortly after the Boeing 737-800 MAX plane took off from Jakarta, Indonesia.

    There were one hundred and eighty-nine people aboard at the time; all of them are feared dead.

    The plane was bound for Pangkal Pinang, Indonesia.

    Boeing Statement on Lion Air Flight JT 610

    The Boeing Company is deeply saddened by the loss of Lion Air Flight JT 610. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and loved ones of those on board.

    Boeing is providing technical assistance at the request and under the direction of government authorities investigating the accident. In accordance with international protocol, all inquiries about this accident investigation must be directed to the investigating authority in charge, the National Transportation Safety Committee of Indonesia.

    What: Russian Air Force Antonov 22A en route from Voronezh to Tver-Migalovo
    Where: Krasny Oktyabr, Tula Region, Russia
    When: Dec 28, 2010, 21:30
    Who: 12 crewmembers (all fatalities)
    Why: After disappearing from radar at 21:30, the Russian military transport plane on a return flight after delivering a MiG-31 fighter jet to the Voronezh Military Aviation Engineering University crashed near Krasny Oktyabr, Tula Region, Russia. There was no cargo. The burning remains were sighted by air patrols on Tuesday at 23:36 four kilometres from the village of Troitskoye. Witnesses heard an explosion.

    Two on site recovery teams hampered by a blizzard and brutal cold weather found that all 12 crew members had been killed. Russian reports speculate that the cause was engine failure. The Antonov is a military cargo turboprop.

    The Russian military is grounding all planes with similar engines, pending determination of the cause of the crash.

    Pilot Injured After Small Plane Crashed in Burke County, NC

    A small plane crashed in Burke County, North Carolina, on February 6th.

    The plane caught fire after it went down on Jamestown Road, Morganton.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Two French Filmmakers Killed as Small Plane Crashes in Kenya

    A small plane crashed in the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya, on March 14th.

    According to local police chief Jackson Mulupi, “We received a phone call from one of the conservancy members that there was an airplane crash within Sera conservancy. I mobilised officers from Sorilibi and Wamba. We rushed to the scene whereby we found one airplane which was trying to take off but crashed about one kilometer from the airstrip.”

    The plane was carrying two French filmmakers at the time; both of them were killed in the crash. They were identified as Pierre Creisson, 53, and Thierry Barbier, 56.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Pilot Killed after Small Plane Crashed in Plainfield, IL

    A Piper PA30 plane crashed in Plainfield, Illinois, on July 21st.

    The plane was heading to Wisconsin when it went down, causing a house to catch fire.

    The pilot Garry T. Bernardo, 58, of Lake Worth, Florida, was killed in the crash. He was the only person aboard the plane.

    Cessna Crashes in Kentucky

    What: 1964 Cessna 150D airplane en route from Gene Snyder Airport in Pendleton County, Ky.
    Where: Gene Snyder Airport in Pendleton County, Ky.in a wooded area near the end of the runway.
    When: 1:20 Sunday afternoon
    Who: Pilot Mark Martin and his sixteen year old son
    Why: The engine stalled on takeoff. The crash is under investigation. This is the second time this week that a small plane taking off from this particular airport stalled and crashed.
