Beechcraft Bonanza Crashes and Burns in Pennsylvania House
What: TSI Titanium (1982) Beechcraft 58 Baron en route from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Where: Bell Township Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania When: Aug 7 2010 9:19 am Who: 2 fatalities Why: The plane crashed nine minutes after take-off. Witnesses say it sounded like the engine cut out before it crashed. The pilot did not contact ATC and the cause is unknown, pending investigation.
Edward Sobota, president and owner of TSI Titanium, was flying his new Beechcraft two engine plane, and working on getting certified in it, when it crashed into a Bell Township neighborhood. Ted Kokolis a pilot for Bayer, who was also on board and killed in the crash. Steve Yanko was sleeping on his couch in his family room and was not injured when the plane crashed and burned in his wife’s art studio at the opposite end of the house. His wife was not in the house at the time.

What: Privately owned Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee B Where: Four miles south of Perryville, AR When: Nov 17 2011 Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities Why: Women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant women’s basketball coach Miranda Serna were on a routine recruiting trip to Arkansas, when the plane crashed in steep terrain in the eastern Ouachita Mountains in the Winona Wildlife Management Area. The other two aboard were Former State Senator Olin Branstetter and his wife, Paula. A local deer hunter’s wife told 911 when she saw the airplane nose-diving in a swirling pattern and crashing in the forest. By 6pm, the wreckage had been located. The passengers had been ejected from the plane, which drove a six foot deep furrow into a ridge but did not catch on fire. Rescuers reached the site on YO4 Forest Access Road via four wheelers.
Miranda Serna was in her seventh season as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State.
The cause of the crash is unknown but it was the catalyst of an outpour of support for Oklahoma State.
That the plane was co-owned by the Branstetters, who were from Ponca City. 82 year old Olin Branstetter was a longtime pilot.
Eleven years ago, a plane carrying 10 crashed, killing two OSU men’s basketball players, two members of its radio broadcast team, three members of the team’s support staff and two pilots in a snow storm in Byers, Colorado.

NTSB investigating Aviation Accident in Perryville, Arkansas

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has dispatched investigators to examine the circumstances of an aviation accident that occurred yesterday afternoon near Perryville, Arkansas, involving a Piper PA-28-180 (N7746W).
Jason Aguilera is the NTSB Investigator-in-Charge. He will receive headquarters support from air traffic control and meteorology. Parties to the investigation include the Federal Aviation Administration, Piper Aircraft and Lycoming.

On Jan 30, 2012, a Micro Aviation Bantam B22S that took off from Westport Airport with two aboard went missing Wednesday. The plane was found on Jan 31, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. on Carters Beach, near Westport. The two local men aged 58 and 25, who were aboard did not survive.
The bodies of the two men aboard were found beside the plane.
A dense sea fog descended at 9 pm when the plane had been aloft and may have been instrumental in the cause of the accident. Locals heard two loud bangs but don’t know if the sound was connected to the accident. The wreckage is not far from the airport.
Peter Ashby father of the crash victim Cole, 25, found the wreckage of the plane carrying his son and pilot Roger Smith, 58. Cole was found dead about a kilometre away, swept away by the tide.
Cole was a machine operator at Stockton opencast mine who enjoyed “motocross, snowboarding, wakeboarding, skiing, drift cars.”
The accident is under investigation.

What: Cessna 210 Where: Blackburn Canyon, Tehachapi, California When: Sept 4, 2011 Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities Why: A Cessna that crashed in Blackburn Canyon, Tehachapi, California killed both people aboard the flight and ignited a fire that caused the evacuation of hundreds of homes south of Bakersfield. Two were confirmed dead in the crash, and it has not (yet) been confirmed if there were more than 2 aboard.
As of Monday, the number of evacuations had grown from 100 to 650 to about 1,500 homes homes. The threatened area was the mountains around the crash and a seven square mile burn area, all threatened by a raging forest fire. Firefighters concentrated on creating a fire-break.
A DC-10 water tanker has been part of the firefighting team, including 600 firefighters and more than a dozen aircraft.
Tehachapi, with a population of 8,000, has some renown as an area with wind farms. Smaller fires spread to San Bernardino National Forest and rural areas of San Bernardino County.
The fire has been 95% contained.

Steven Davis and Wesley Caves died in the South Bend Plane crash on Sunday.
The Hawker Beechcraft 390 plane struck three homes when it fell; two other people were aboard and were injured and one person on the ground was injured.
The plane was split in two by the impact. The raw video below was captured by a surveillance camera.
