    American Airlines Container Fire, Hong Kong

    American Airlines Flight AA192 had a little bit of an issue while standing prior to takeoff Oct 9 2017, earlier today. As the Boeing 777 was being loaded, the container loader malfunctioned, resulting in a fire. The fire spread, and burned the cargo container. The plane was scheduled to fly from Hong Kong-Chek Lap Kok International Airport to LAX in Los Angeles. According to Flightradar24, the flight was cancelled. (I expect so!)

    Pilot Killed in Small Plane Crash in Central Minnesota

    A small plane crashed in Stearns County, Minnesota, on January 23rd.

    The plane departed from Sauk Centre Airport and was practicing takeoffs and landings when it went down.

    The pilot, Matthew Skwira, 50, of Rice, Minnesota, was killed in the crash.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Bird-Hit Hawaiian Airlines Plane Returns to Sacramento International Airport

    Hawaiian AirlinesHawaiian Airlines flight HA-19 made an emergency landing at Sacramento International Airport, California, on May 7th.

    The plane took off for Honolulu, Hawaii, but had to return shortly afterwards after a bird hit its right hand engine.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 269 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Three Injured After Small Plane Crashed in California

    A small plane crashed into a parking lot near Gillespie Field in El Cajon, California, on December 17th.

    Authorities said the pilot had reported engine issues, and was attempting to return to Gillespie Field when the plane went down and caught fire.

    Three people were injured in the crash, including the pilot and two passengers. They were taken to hospitals.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Private Plane Crash Pilot from Yuma Identified


    What: E300 EXTRA FLUGZEUGBAU GMBH EA-300
    Where: Salinas California
    When: April 8 2012, 6:57
    Who: two fatalities
    Why: Captain George Mellone was flying his plane in Salinas with David Ostendorf when it crashed. Both died of blunt force trauma. Mellone was a harrier pilot who had flown home to Yuma for Easter weekend.

    Mellone was a Marine Captain stationed at Air Station Yuma who graduated from the University of N. Dakota in 2007 with a degree in aviation management, and had earned three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and obtained the rank of Captain since joining the Corps in 1999. He had been performing stunts right before his plane crashed. The cause of his crash is under investigation.

    His co-pilot was 24-year-old David Gary Ostendorf, a 2010 St. Cloud State University aviation graduate, was an FAA controller at the Montery Regional Airport Tower. The cause of the crash has not been identified.
