    News Coverage of the Kazakhstan Crash that killed 21 Update


    The SCAT-owned Canadian-built Bombardier Challenger CRJ-200 # UP-CJ006 crashed in Kyzyl Tu village five miles from its Almaty airport destination.

    There was disagreement over the number of passengers (5 crew, 16 passengers)

    Plane Crashes into Inlet beside Fire Island


    What: Globe Swift en route from Spadaro Airport
    Where: Moriches inlet, Fire Island
    When: Oct 20, 2012 3 p.m.
    Who: 2 aboard
    Why: A Globe Swift plane that took off from Spadaro Airport had two aboard.

    The plane was witnessed nosediving into Moriches inlet where it sank twenty to thirty feet deep, ending up upside down on a rock where divers took hours trying to retrieve the occupants.

    Fishermen were the first on the scene, and tried to haul the plane up with a rope.Medics were on standby waiting for the divers to retrieval of the passengers, but the occupants were underwater for hours and presumed deceased.

    A Bad Day to Be A Vine

    What: en route from Madera Municipal Airport
    Where: crash landed just south of Avenue 17 just north of the airport at the north end of Madera
    When: 1:30 p.m.
    Who:
    Why: When the engine lost power, the pilot, attemptedan “off-runway” emergency landing. The plane ripped through a barbed wire fence, skidded across the road and ended up in a vineyard after taking out a few rows of vines. The pilot was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno; the passenger was airlifted to the same hospital.

    Rescue Helocopter Crashes during Maintenance Flight

    A Metro Aviation / Life Air Rescue Eurocopter EC-135P-1 was on a test flight with the pilot and two mechanic aboard when it crashed in a field behind Metro Aviation. All three aboard were injured, and hospitalized at Willis-Knighton Hospital.

    There was fuel on the ground, so emergency responders followed hazmat protocol. The accident was close to Shreveport Downtown Airport in a field at Hawn and North Thomas Avenue.

    The leased EC135 experienced mechanical problems and was in for maintenance..

    The affected helicopter has no history of problems, and has current certification. The cause of the incident has not yet been determined or released.

    Small Plane Crashes in Fort Wayne, Indiana; 2 Injured

    A small plane crashed at Fort Wayne International Airport, Indiana, on March 29th.

    The incident happened when the Cirrus SR20 plane was carrying a student pilot and an instructor from Purdue University flight school.

    Both occupants of the plane were injured in the incident and were taken to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

    Pilot Injured after Medical Helicopter Crash-Landed in Tennessee

    A medical helicopter crash-landed in Mountain City, Tennessee, on June 3rd.

    The incident happened after the aircraft, belonging to Wellmont Health System and PHI Air Medical, was dispatched to pick up a car crash victim.

    According to a statement released by Wellmont Health System and PHI Air Medical, “Soon after liftoff, the pilot, an employee of PHI Air Medical, which owns and operates the aircraft, identified a mechanical condition that required immediate landing. He executed emergency procedures to bring the aircraft to the ground, limiting risk to the passengers and damage to the aircraft.”

    The pilot was injured in the incident. He was taken to hospital.

    The incident is being investigated.
