    What: Jetblue Embraer ERJ-190 en route from Westchester County,NY to Orlando,FL
    Where: Orlando
    When: Jan 24th 2012
    Who: 1 injury
    Why: The flight encountered turbulence which injured a flight attendant. On approach to Orlando, ATC was informed of the injured crew member.

    On landing, the attendant was met by rescue services. The extent of injury was not released.

    Small Plane Crashes near Miami Executive Airport; Pilot Killed

    A small plane crashed near Miami Executive Airport in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on December 10th.

    Authorities said the pilot had declared an emergency shortly after departing from Miami Executive Airport, and was attempting to return when the plane went down.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash.

    The Silk Air Airbus Hits Fiery Fast Brakes In Solo

    What: Silkair Airbus A319-100 en route from Singapore to Solo Indonesia
    Where: Solo
    When: Mar 6th 2012
    Who: 124 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: On landing at Solo, the plane touched down with the left main gear afire.

    Passengers evacuated by way of emergency slides. There were no injuries reported.

    The cause of the gear fire is under investigation although SilkAir says the smoke originated in overheated breaks and that there was no fire.

    Pilot Dies in Alaska Crash

    What: Cessna 150 en route from Anchorage to Beluga Lake
    Where: west side of Cook Inlet, Beluga Lake Alaska
    When: June 26, 2011
    Who: 2 aboard, 1 fatality
    Why: Pilot Timothy Hudok was killed in his Cessna three miles west of Beluga Lake. The wreckage was found by Alaskan State Troopers at Triumvirate Glacier after the pilot’s wife had alerted the FAA to the flight being overdue. Passenger Robert Goodwill who survived was airlifted to Providence Alaska Medical center.

    Mexico crash

    What: Armada de Mexico Mi-8MTV-1 AMHT-208 en route from Veracruz to Mexico City
    Where: border between the states of Veracruz and Puebla
    When: Sept 10, 2009
    Who: 5 on board, 2 fatalities
    Why: Crashed close to the kilometer 27 of the Perote-Los Humeros road. Pilot Daniel Cabrera Ruiz and Aviation Mechanic Irineo González Jerónimo were killed. The three survivors were taken to Jalapa and Perote, in Veracruz. The crash is under investigation by Aviation authorities and the Armada de Mexico.

    American Airlines Flight Struck by Lightning

    What: American Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Chicago to Reno
    Where: Chicago
    When: Sept 2, 2010
    Who: One-hundred-sixty passengers and five crew members
    Why: After being struck by lightning, American Airlines Flight 1487 returned to Chicago where it was examined by maintenance.

    Passengers were provided an alternative plane that had not been struck by lightning.
