American Airlines flight AA-2271 made an emergency landing at Palm Beach International Airport, Florida, on the afternoon of July 6.
The Boeing 737-800, heading towards West Palm Beach in Florida, from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, had to be diverted due to a problem with one of its flaps.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 141 people aboard remained safe.
ATA Airlines flight I3-6636 made an emergency landing in Tabriz, Iran, on September 12th.
The plane took off for Baku, Azerbaijan, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.
The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
Cathay Pacific flight CX-170 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Bali, Indonesia, on September 25.
The Airbus A330-300, flying from Perth, Australia, to Hong Kong, China, diverted after its right engine started emitting flames and sparks, causing vibration. The crew decided to shut the engine down for a safe landing.
The plane landed uneventfully.
All 254 passengers and 13 crew members remained safe.
An Executive Air Piper PA-34 Seneca en route from Grantley Adams International Airport (Seawell, Christ Church on the island of Barbados) en route to Maurice Bishop International Airport (St. Georges, Granada) took off, but sustained an unsafe gear warning.
Pilots returned to Seawell, and made a semi safe landing (as the two pilots and two passengers were uninjured) but on landing, the right main gear collapsed.
The plane had a runway excursion. Emergency services responded to the scene, and the plane was foamed to prevent a fire.

What: Fed Ex/Morningstar Boeing 737-200 en route from Winnipeg to Calgary
Where: Winnipeg
When: May 3rd 2011
Why: The plane was on the runway when the pilot received an indication of fire. The fire indication would not shut down, even after the plane stopped. Emergency services responded. The plane was “rebooted” and the indication shut down.
(Just like my kitchen alarm that goes off whenever I cook, regardless of whether something is burning or not. I promise it wasn’t me. I promise I wasn’t cooking in the non-existent galley.)
A Cessna 172 plane made an emergency landing in a field in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, on October 3.
Air traffic controllers said the pilot reported engine issues before it lost communication and made an emergency landing. The plane was flying from Montevideo, Minnesota at the time.
The 30-year-old pilot, and his only passenger, remained unhurt.
The aircraft was able to take off again and safely landed at Middleton Municipal Airport.

What: Air Canada Airbus A319-100 en route from Calgary to Toronto
Where: Winnipeg
When: Thursday Sept 17 12:03 pm
Who: 121 passengers
Why: While en route, the pilot experienced problems with the left engine and had an indicator light indicating further problems. After declaring an emergency situation, the pilot idled the left engine, and landed safely in Winnipeg a little over half an hour after declaring an emergency.
