All Nippon Airways flight NH-1899 made an emergency landing in Sapporo, Japan, on June 20th.
The plane was flying from Aomori, Japan, when the crew needed to shut down an engine due to an unusual odor on-board.
The plane landed safely. All 41 people aboard remained unharmed.
Skymark Airlines flight 732 had to return and make an emergency landing at New Chitose Airport, Hakkaido, Japan, on August 22nd.
The aircraft en-route to Haneda, Japan, was mid-air when a passenger’s portable battery charger exploded and started emitting smoke.
The plane landed uneventfully.
All 170 passengers onboard remained unharmed.

What: United Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Los Angeles ,CA to Narita
Where: Los Angeles
When: Oct 5th, 2009
Why: About twenty minutes after takeoff, the plane experienced a hydraulics leak. The flight crew decided to return to LAX, where it landed safely at 2:21 p.m.
Maintenance crews are inspecting the plane.
United Airlines flight 102 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on February 12th.
The Boeing 767 plane, heading from Houston, Texas, to Munich, Germany, was diverted after the crew reported problems with one of the two engines.
The plane landed safely. There were 98 passengers and 13 crew members aboard; none of them were harmed.
Hong Kong Express Airways flight UO-1845 had to return for an emergency landing in Osaka, Japan, on April 15th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Hong Kong, China, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.
The plane landed safely.
There were 194 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

What: British Airways Boeing 777-200 en route from Santa Maria Azores Islands (Portugal) to London Heathrow
Where: Atlantic
When: Oct 19th 2011
Why: While en route to Portugal, one of the plane’s four engines (right engine) had to be shut down after experiencing a problem with the oil pressure. The flight diverted to Lisbon, and made a safe landing.
The same plane had had a similar problem on October 16th, and had diverted at that point to Santa Maria.
Southwest Airlines flight WN-149 had to face a delay after the aircraft’s nose gear collapsed at Baltimore–Washington International Airport, Maryland, on August 4th.
The Boeing 737-300 plane was being pushed back when its nose gear collapsed.
All 126 passengers and 5 crew members disembarked safely.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
