    Vietnam Airlines Emergency Landing in Ho Chi Minh City

    What: Vietnam Airlines Airbus A320-200 en route from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City
    Where: Ho Chi Minh City
    When: Aug 7th 2009
    Who: 164 passengers including 26 children and 2 infants
    Why: On its landing approach, the plane developed an unusual level of hydraulic fluid in its hydraulic braking system. Two (main gear) tires blew on landing. (It is not uncommon for tires to blow when a plane lands at too high of a speed.) The passengers debarked via emergency slides. No injuries were reported.

    Newspapers reported that the pilot was Captain Jual Ruiz of Peru Ruiz, who got his license from CAAV in 2005, and has 17,500 flying hours. Nguyen Khanh Thanh of Viet Nam was his copilot.

    What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from San Francisco to Chicago O’Hare
    Where: en route
    When: Jun 14 2010
    Who: 225 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: When the first officer became ill aboard 1612 from San Francisco, a fight attendant with a commercial pilots license stepped in as copilot (taking the first officer’s seat) for the landing.

    Ride ’em cowboy, American Airlines. Way to go.

    Delta Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport

    Delta Airlines flight DL-803 had to return and make an emergency landing at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Kentucky, on March 23rd.

    The plane took off for Orlando, Florida, but had to return shortly afterwards due to reports of a smoky odor in the cabin.

    The plane landed back safely. All 148 passengers aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Philippine Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Haneda Airport

    Philippine Airlines flight PR-116 made an emergency landing at Haneda Airport, Japan, on August 2nd.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Manila, Philippines, to Vancouver, Canada, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    J-Air Flight Returns to Osaka International Airport

    J AirJ-Air flight JL-2301 had to return and make an emergency landing at Osaka International Airport, Japan, on June 28th.

    The plane took off for Matsuyama, Japan, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported failure of right hand generator.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 32 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    EasyJet Flight Returns to Liverpool after Suspected Electrical Fault

    EasyjetEasyJet flight EZY 7045 had to return and make an emergency landing at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in England, on June 19.

    The airbus A320 was en-route from Liverpool to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris when the crew reported a possible electrical fault and decided to make an emergency landing.

    The plane landed safely and none of the 176 passengers reported any injuries.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement flight while the plane was taken for inspection.
