Aer Lingus flight 110 had to return and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on September 28.
The Boeing 757 that took off for Shannon airport, Ireland, was diverted after the pilot reported landing gear door problems, hydraulic failure, and no flaps.
Fire was sparked in the left rear brakes as the plane touched the runway. Emergency responders immediately extinguished the fire and all 104 passengers were transported back to the terminal safely.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH-180 made an emergency landing in Chennai, India, on June 10th.

Why: The press service of the West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office reported a hard landing of the NordStar Airlines ATR 42–500.
The plane had taken off normally but the gears would not retract. THe pilot informed ATC and returned to the airport where pilots made a safe landing (though reported as a “crash” landing.) No one was injured.
The West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office will be investigating.
What: Single engine 1960 Piper Tri-Pacer en route from Lakefront Airport to St. Charles Parish

Why: Pilot Houston Hunter had dropped off his grandson at Lakefront Airport in New Orleans and was en route to Ama Airport in St. Charles Parish when he had mechanical problems and lost power. The pilot turned and tried to return to Lakefront, but had to make an emergency landing on the boulevard median, striking a minivan. Hunter injured his arm. There were three adults and two children in the van but no one was injured.
Envoy Air Flight 3530 had to return and make an emergency landing at LaGuardia Airport in New York on April 30.
The plane took off for Detroit but had to turn back shortly afterwards after one or more birds hit its left wing flap.
The plane landed safely. All 62 passengers aboard remained unhurt.
A single-engine Piper PA-46 aircraft crashed near Dubuque Regional Airport, Iowa, on October 13.
Dr. Doug Butzier, a Libertarian candidate running for the U.S. Senate seat in Iowa, was killed in the crash. He was contending against the Democratic candidate Bruce Braley.
According to FAA spokesperson Lynn Lunsford, the plane crashed at around 11 p.m. while it was approaching the runway to make a landing. He also confirmed that the plane departed from Ankeny Regional Airport around an hour earlier.
Butzier was the only one aboard the aircraft when it crashed.
The NTSB is investigating.
