    Bird-Struck Helicopter Makes Emergency landing Along Hudson River

    HelicopterA bird-struck helicopter had to land in emergency at the West 30th Street heliport on the Hudson River, New York City, on the afternoon of October 3.

    According to the FAA, the Bell B407 helicopter was hit by a bird while it was some 6 miles west-southwest of LaGuardia Airport.

    The helicopter belongs to an aerial tour company. According to the General manager Kathleen Wiig, the incident happened when the helicopter was flying at around 1,500 feet and that the protocol requires immediate landing in such situations.

    There were 7 people on-board at the time of incident, none of them required any medical attention.

    The FAA is investigating.

    4 Die in Russian Chopper Crash

    What: Kazakhstan Mil Mi-17
    Where: Astana
    When: August 22, 2012, 8:00 a.m.
    Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
    Why: The helicopter was on a training flight when it crashed. All four crew died in the accident. Kazakhstan’s Minister of defense announced that they selected a committee to investigate and “The causes of helicopter crash will be defined by the end of the commission’s work. Given the evidence, the Akmola garrison military prosecutor opened a criminal case on the grounds of an offense under article 392 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (violation of safety and training.”

    Representatives of the Main Directorate of Flight Safety and state aircraft, the Ministry of Defense, and the Prosecutor’s Office are working at the scene in the military investigation of the Interior Ministry.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Norfolk

    United Airlines flight UA-299 made an emergency landing in Norfolk, Virginia, on August 2nd.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia, was descending toward Norfolk when the crew entered a hold due to hydraulic issues.

    The plane subsequently landed safely. All eighty-eight people aboard remained unharmed.

    Italian Ultralight Falls from Sky Killing Experienced Pilot and eighteen year old Photographer

    What: Privately owned Alpi Aviation Pioneer 300
    Where: San Donà di Piave (Venezia
    When: Feb 5, 2012
    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: After taking off from Caposile Airfield, the plane lost altitude and fell vertically. and crashed in a field near San Donà di Piave. Franco Borin, 45 and Simone Conte, 18 died on impact. Conte was flying in order to take photographs.

    The judge has ordered autopsies on the victims.

    Investigators question the structural integrity of the aircraft.

    Police and firefighters of San Donà di Piave responded to the scene.

    The Alpi Aviation Pioneer 300 is classified as an ultralight.

    Prosecutor Rita Uglolini who is coordinating the investigation has acquired a video which may have documented the fall.

    Trans States Airlines Plane Rejects Take Off From Fargo

    Trans States Airlines flight UA-4629 had to reject take off from Fargo, North Dakota, on January 9th.

    The Embraer ERJ-145 plane was accelerating to take off for Denver, Colorado, when two right hand tires blew, forcing the crew to reject take off.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Who: Pilot and passenger killed
    Why: After witness heard big “bangs,” the plane crashed in the field. Air Accidents Investigation Board (AAIB) is investigating.
