    Who: 258 passengers and 12 crew
    Why: While lining up to take-off, the plane’s nose gear departed the runway surface on to the ground. The plane had to be towed, and caused a runway to be shut down.

    What: Bell 206 registered to Hillcrest Aircraft Company en route from Ogallala, Nebraska to Wichita. to Virginia for the U.S. Forest Service.
    Where: Buckskin Road between 19th and 20th Avenues in McPherson County, 40 miles north of Wichita.
    When: 2:45 p.m. Sunday March 8, 2009
    Who: Pilot Roger Hershner was the only one aboard.
    Why: The helicopter crashed after being in route for 2 hours; the crash is under investigation.

    United successful Belly Landing at O’Hare

    What: The United Express flight 7164, en route from O’Hare bound for South Bend
    Where: O’Hare Airport
    When: Monday night Dec 15
    Who: 28 passengers and 4 crew members
    Why: The plane was about to land in South Bend but instead, circled the airport and returned to Chicago because of a landing gear problem. When the plane hit the tarmac, the left wing shot sparks. The belly landing as the plane slid down the runway, half on its belly.

    Two Injured After Batik Air Flight Hits Turbulence

    Batik Air flight ID-6890 encountered turbulence on the way to Kualanamu International Airport, Indonesia, on October 24th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was flying from Jakarta, Indonesia, when it hit severe turbulence that injured a passenger and a flight attendant.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. The injured were rushed to a hospital.

    Southwest Airlines Plane Suffers Bird Strikes Near Reagan National Airport

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-3442 suffered multiple bird strikes near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Virginia, on November 5th.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 737-700 plane flying from Kansas City, Missouri, was on approach to Reagan National Airport.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Gol Transportes Aereos Plane Returns to Brazil due to Smell of Smoke

    Gol Transportes Aereos flight G3-1613 had to return and make an emergency landing at Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport, Brazil, on May 8th.

    The Boeing 737-800 flying to Sao Paulo Guarulhos, Brazil, had to return due to smell of smoke.

    The plane landed safely.

    The passengers were rebooked in other flights.
