    Spicejet Wing Hits Post on Runway


    What: SpiceJet Boeing 737-800 en route from Delhi to Hyderabad
    Where: Delhi-Indira Gandhi International Airport
    When: Dec 6 2012
    Who: 142 aboard
    Why: During taxi, the plane’s wing struck a lamp post, canceling the flight for 142 passengers. A damaged wing will require inspection before the plane can return to service.

    Spicejet issued a statement that the accident was minor.

    According to reports, 142 passengers were aboard at the time, many of them quite disturbed by the incident. The collision damaged a wing.

    An inquiry has been ordered. Action may be taken against the pilot and those who were directing the pilot. Spicejet’s attitude is that this is a minor incident. That attitude is being interpreted by officials that the safety of passengers is not of primary concern to Spicejet. This may be considered a case of negligence.

    C-17 Lands at Tiny Davis Island Airport

    What: Air Force C-17 Globemaster III cargo jet en route from SW Asia to MacDill Air Force Base
    Where: Peter O. Knight Airport, Davis Island
    When: July 20, 2012
    Who: 23 passengers and 19 crew
    Why: The Globemaster III cargo jet landed on a runway that is 3,580 feet long and 100 feet wide rather than the 11,421 feet long and 151 feet wide runway at MacDill. The nose stopped six to 10 feet from the end of the runway. It took off again later with no problem.

    Six bodies recovered in CAA Crash in Goma


    On March 4th 2013, a CAA Compagnie Africaine d’Aviation Fokker 50 cargo flight en route from Lodja to Goma crashed in a residential area at Lake Kivu.

    The incident occurred during bad weather under conditions with low visibility on approach to the runway. The crash impacted residences.

    Six bodies were recovered and three survivors reported. The six bodies were reported to be the crew, and the survivors were the three passengers.

    CAA is banned from flying within Europe.

    American Eagle Emergency Landing in Chicago

    What: American Eagle Embraer EMB-145LR en route from Chicago to Tulsa
    Where: Chicago
    When: May 31, 2012
    Who: 31 aboard
    Why: The flight took off, but received a gear disagree message. After a flyby determining the gear were down, the pilots made an overweight landing. No injuries were reported. There were apparently no stairs provided on exit.

    Passengers eventually arrived in Tulsa after 1 pm.

    The same plane had just made a prior emergency landing at O’Hare.

    Turkish Airlines Airbus Lightning strike, Engine Fire

    On January 25, 2013, a Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-231 with 114 aboard en route from Istanbul-Atatürk was on approach to Izmir Turkey when the plane is reported to have suffered an engine fire in the right engine.

    A report is circulating that the plane was struck by lightning.

    Many of the passengers were reported to be in a panic, saying the plane was vibrating the whole flight, describe the loud noise of the strike, and also the smell of burning

    The pilot made a safe landing on one engine.
