    What: Air Transat/ Boeing 737-800, en route from Havana Cuba to Montreal,QC Canada
    Where: Florida
    When: Jan 17th 2011
    Who: 167 aboard
    Why: While en route south of Miami, the plane encountered turbulence. The seat belt sign was on, and cabin crew were seated. The flight experienced turbulents for about two minutes and the plane dropped 500 feet before stabilizing. There were no injuries. The flight continued on to Montreal.

    Lufthansa Airbus Engine Shut down

    What: Lufthansa Airbus A380-800 en route from Tokyo to Frankfurt
    Where: Estonia
    When: Aug 6th 2010
    Why: While en route, the left engine developed oil pressure problems and the crew shut it down. The flight continued to Frankfurt where they made a safe landing.

    EgyptAir: Wreckage, Blackboxes located by “John Lethbridge”

    The Egyptair Airbus A320 known as flight MS-804 that departed May 18th from Charles de Gaulle airport and disappeared over the Mediterranean in Egyptian airspace apparently has been found. Jun 15th 2016 Egypt’s Civil Aviation Authority reported that the “John Lethbridge” identified A320 wreckage locations. Currently the area in question is being mapped, part of the planning process of wreckage recovery.

    Fifty-six passengers and ten crew died in the wreckage.

    * Update: Black boxes both recovered.

    4 die in South Carolina Lear Jet Crash

    What: Learjet N999LJ owned by Global Exec Aviation en route to Van Nuys, Calif
    Where:
    When: departed shortly before midnight Friday
    Who: carrying six people Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles — died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity DJ AM were critically injured
    Why: air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane was traveling at least 92 mph, its minimum takeoff speed, when the crew thought the tire burst The plane hurtled off the end of a runway and crashed through antennas and a fence, crossing a five-lane highway and ending up on an embankment in flames.The plane was heading to Van Nuys, Calif.

    In serious condition is Travis Barker, who was the drummer for the band Blink-182. Barker was one of the two people wounded when the Learjet 60 crashed on a highway and caught fire.

    Listed in critical condition is Adam Michael Goldstein otherwise known as celebrity disc jockey DJ AM. He reportedly saved his own life by jumping from the burning plane while it was skidding down a runway.

    Cargo Plane Made Emergency Landing at Spokane Airport

    UPS airlinesA UPS Airlines Airbus 300, heading from Portland to Spokane, made an emergency landing at the Spokane Airport in Washington on the morning of July 30.

    According to Todd Woodard with Spokane International, the pilots thought some tires of the plane had blown during takeoff. They declared an in-flight emergency as a precautionary step.

    The plane landed safely and it was discovered that no tires were actually blown.

    Cathay Pacific Airbus Loses Both Engines

    What: Cathay Pacific Airbus A330-300 en route from from Surabaya Indonesia to Hong Kong
    Where: Hong Kong
    When: April 13 2010
    Who: 309 passengers and 14 crew
    Why: On approach to Hong Kong, the flight developed engine failure in one engine which was shut down, and the other engine failed on landing. On the runway, brakes overheated, caught fire, and the tires went flat.

    Passengers evacuated the plane via emergency chutes; seven were injured though only five hospitalized. (Other reports indicate 8 admitted to hospital.)
