    Scandinavian Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Technical Issue

    Scandinavian Airlines flight SK-4418 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Trondheim, Norway, on January 22nd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Oslo to Tromso, Norway, was diverted due to a technical issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    St Pete Emergency Landing

    What: twin engine plane crash
    Where: South part of runway 39 at the St Pete – Clearwater Airport.
    When: The plane went down shortly after midnight/early Friday morning.
    Who: Two women with non-life threatening injures are being treated at separate hospitals.
    Why: The landing gear was damaged and the plane landed in a grassy area by runway 39.
    The steering gear in the plane hit the pilot in the face. High winds from Hurricane Ike may have played a role in the crash.

    Envoy Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Philadelphia

    Envoy Air flight AA-4680 had to return and make an emergency landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 14th.

    The Embraer ERJ-145 plane took off for Ottawa, Canada, but had to turn back after the crew received indication of an engine problem.

    The plane landed safely. All fifty people aboard remained unharmed.

    4 Fatalities in Colombian Helicopter Crash

    What: Huey II police helicopter
    Where: crashed in South Colombia
    When: March 4
    Who: four people on board; 4 fatalities: Lts. Juan Valero and Hernan Leal – the pilot and co-pilot, respectively – and agents Yesid Vidal and Gustavo Ibañez.
    Why: The helicopter was missing since early Tuesday. It was located by search and rescue teams in the southern Colombian province of Putumayo. The wreckage was found 10 km from the town of Villa Garzon, Republic of Colombia. The helicopter’s last known operation was returning from transporting workers with the government to manually eradicate local illegal coca crops; the last known communication was with air traffic controllers at 1.25 a.m. Tuesday.

    When: Sep 21st 2009
    Who: 95 passengers and 5 crew
    Why: On approach to Sakhalinsk, the flight underwent a “switch-off” of the right engine, but landed safely.

    What: Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 en route from Frankfurt to New York JFK,NY
    Where: southwest of Iceland
    When: Sep 19th 2009
    Who: 334 passengers
    Why: After finding an oil leak over Iceland, the plane returned to Frankfurt; an alternative flight was provided for passengers who arrived in NY after a delay of less than 10 hours.

    What: Egyptair Boeing 777-200 en route from London to Cairo
    Where: near London
    When: Sep 23rd 2009
    Who: 234 passengers
    Why: Due to an undisclosed technical failure, the flight returned to Heathrow. The flight was cancelled and passengers were provided accommodations.

    What: SAS Scandinavian Airlines Boeing 737-600 en route from Dusseldorf to Stockholm
    Where: Dusseldorf
    When: Sep 22nd 2009
    Why: The flight reported engine problems after takeoff. Passengers were rebooked on other flights. Unverified passenger quotations posted on the Aviation Safety net indicate the crew may have known ahead of time there were issues; and they were attempting to fly the plane back to its base for repairs.

    Turkish Airlines Jet Diverts to Germany Over Bomb Threat

    turkishflagTurkish Airlines flight TK1617 had to divert and made an emergency landing in Nuremberg, Germany, on November 30.

    According to an airline spokesperson, “The aircraft operating Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul to Frankfurt flight today has diverted to Nuremberg due to a suspicious object found onboard.”

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 124 passengers remained safe.

    “The necessary investigation onboard is continuing and the decision concerning the continuation of the flight to Frankfurt will be finalized according the result of such investigation,” the spokesperson said.
