    What: US Airways CRJ-200 en route to Grand Junction Colorado
    Where: Grand Junction, Colorado
    When: Feb 18, 2009
    Who: 27 passengers
    Why: On approach, the crew discovered that the plane’ flaps were inoperable, making the speed of approach at the upper limit of the tires’ capacity. Emergency crews were on standby because of the potential tire issue. However (and fortunately) , the landing was (as you can see) uneventful.

    What: Expressjet Embraer ERJ-145/Continental Airlines en route from Houston,TX to Salt Lake City,UT
    Where: Salt Lake City,UT
    When: Aug 10th 2010
    Who: 46 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: On approach to Salt Lake City, the plane flew through a flock of seagulls. The flight made a safe landing, although there was evidence of at least one bird strike that damaged the skin of the plane which was apparently not a seagull but a pelican.

    All Nippon Airways Fuel Leak

    What: ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 777-300 en route from London to Tokyo
    Where: en route (halfway)
    When: Jul 20th 2010
    Who: 249 passengers and 17 crew
    Why: While en route, about halfway to their destination, the pilot detected one engine burning fuel faster. The crew d to continued on to Tokyo, eventually shutting down the left engine prior to making a safe landing.

    Maintenance did discover a fuel pipe leak.

    ‘Suspicious Bag’ Prompts Turkish Airlines Emergency Landing in Copenhagen

    Turkish airlinesA Turkish Airlines jet had to make an emergency landing at Copenhagen Airport, Denmark, on June 25.

    The Boeing 777-300ER was en-route from Istanbul to New York when it had to be diverted due to a suspicious old bag.

    The plane landed safely and none of the 292 passengers was harmed.

    Bomb squad thoroughly inspected the bag but nothing suspicious was found. Authorities believe it was an old camera bag possibly left behind by a previous passenger.

    Aer Lingus Plane Returns to Italy after Bird Strike

    Aer Lingus flight EI-451 had to return and make an emergency landing at Naples International Airport, Italy, on May 3rd.

    The Airbus A321-200 flying to Dublin, Ireland, had to return after one of its engines ingested a bird.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 148 passengers and 7 crew members remained safe.

    EasyJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Frankfurt

    EasyJet flight U2-1746 made an emergency landing in Frankfurt, Germany, on September 5th.

    The Airbus A319-100 heading from Berlin Schonefeld Airport, Germany, to Toulouse, France, was diverted after the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
