    Easyjet Delayed for Smoke in Cockpit

    What: Easyjet Boeing 737-700 en route from Luton England to Budapest
    Where: Luton
    When: Dec 30th 2009
    Who: not available
    Why: While en route, the crew reported cockpit smoke. They returned to the airport and made a safe landing. A replacement flight was provided for the passengers within 4 hours.

    South African Beechcraft Crashes into Mountain


    What: Beechcraft plane owned by Air Serv which provides air transport for international aid agencies. The plane was being flown by South Africa’s Cem Air.
    Where: eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
    When: crashed into a mountain near Bukavu. The plane was last contacted in heavy rain 10 minutes from Bukavu
    Who: 15 passengers and two crew members. Most of the passengers were aid and relief workers.
    Why: The weather is considered a factor but no cause is listed as yet. UN rescue teams are “securing the site and searching for and recovering victims’ bodies.” No survivors.

    Transavia Flight Diverts to Amsterdam due to Flaps Problem

    Transavia flight HV-5244 made an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on October 13th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Lisbon, Portugal, to Rotterdam, Netherlands, was diverted due to an issue with the flaps.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    SAS Emergency Landing


    What: Scandinavian Airlines Boeing 737-683 en route from Stockholm to Umeå
    Where: Sweden
    When: August 26, 2012
    Who: 120 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: After take-off, the plane was hit by lightning.

    Pilots returned to the airport and made a safe landing. Passengers transferred to another plane, while the original was inspected.

    Two Killed in Small Plane Crash near Port St. Lucie

    A small plane crashed in the Atlantic Ocean near Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Mach 31st.

    The incident happened shortly after the pilot reported to the Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center that he was changing course for weather avoidance.

    There were two people aboard the plane at the time, both were killed in the crash.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Moroccan Family Dies in Grenoble Plane Crash

    On January 5, 2013, a twin engine plane hit a remote hill near Grenoble and crashed, killing five. The pilot was flying his wife and three children from Grenoble France to Morocco. The plane (probably a Piper Seneca) disappeared from radar not long after takeoff.

    The family was returning home from a vacation in France. No one on the ground was hurt.

    Witnesses in Saint Pierre de Bressieux saw the plane crash. Emergency services dispatched to the scene found 5 deceased victims and a burning plane.
