    Pakistan International Airlines Flight Returns to Karachi due to Flaps Problem

    pia-logoPakistan International Airlines flight PK-894 had to return and make an emergency landing in Karachi, Pakistan, on April 11th.

    The plane took off for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an issue with the flaps.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Chopper Strikes Syrian Airlines Passenger Jet

    What: Syrian Arab Airlines
    Where: Duma east of Damascus
    When: Sept 20, 2012
    Who: 200 aboard, no injuries
    Why: The Syrian military helicopter that crashed near Damascus struck the tail of a Syrian Arab Airlines plane.

    200 aboard were uninjured. Pilots managed to land the plane at Damascus.

    A release stated that “The control tower at Damascus airport confirmed that the plane landed safely at Damascus airport and all 200 passengers are in good health.”

    The Mil helicopter was damaged beyond repair. No one aboard survived.

    PIA Engine Vibration Cancels Flight

    What: Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 747 en route from Karachi to Islamabad
    Where: Karachi
    When: Aug 2nd 2010
    Who: 215 passengers
    Why: After take off, the pilot detected a vibration in the left engine and returned to the airport to make a safe landing. The origin of the engine vibration may be the bird strike that occurred on July 30.

    Virgin and Jetstar Collide in Australia


    A Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800 scheduled from Melbourne to Maroochydore had a ground accident on the tarmac.

    The plane collided with a Jetstar AirbusA320. None of the 175 passengers on the Virgin flight were injured but both planes sustained damage.

    The Boeing’s left winglet was damaged.

    The Virgin Australia plane was reversing.

    The Jetstar sustained damage to the tail. It had just returned from Sydney, and was stationary during the collision.

    An investigation is ongoing. Damages of about three million are estimated to each craft.

    PIA Emergency Landing

    What: Pakistan International Airlines en route to Lahore
    Where: Sheikh Zyed international airport in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab Province
    When: May 13, 2011
    Who: 51 aboard
    Why: Five minutes after takeoff, the engine caught fire. Pilots returned the plane to the airport.
