    United Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Arkansas due to Smoke in Gallery

    new-united-logoUnited Airlines plane had to divert and make an emergency landing at South Arkansas Regional Airport, El Dorado, Arkansas, on March 7.

    The Embraer 170, en-route from Indianapolis to Houston, was mid air when the flight attendant saw smoke in its gallery, prompting the crew to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 70 passengers and crew members onboard remained unhurt.

    Airbus A380 Wing Cracks at root of Emirates Compensation Plan.


    Emirates Airline is seeking compensation from Airbus for loss of revenue due to grounded Airbus A380s.

    Safety engineers found cracks in almost all Airbus A380 planes inspected.

    Emirates is not alone. Qantas Airways grounded one of its planes for up to a week following the discovery of 36 separate cracks in wing parts. European Air Safety Agency (EASA) recommended examination of all Airbus A380s in the Qantas fleet and 20 aircraft operated by Singapore Airlines.

    The Airbus list price is $390 million. France-based Airbus is not expected to turn a profit before 2015.

    Octogenarian Lands Plane Beside Unconscious Pilot/Spouse

    Why: After her husband John passed out at the controls of their Cessna, eighty-one year old Helen Collins took some quick lessons “on the fly” and managed to land the plane, with minor damage.

    Air Traffic Control talked to her until pilot instructor Robert Vuksanovic took his plane up to fly by her as he coached her down. The distress call came at 5:05 pm. after Collins was three hours in flight from Marco Island, Florida. On landing, Helen and her husband John were hospitalized; John was declared dead at 6:38 p.m. Helen had back pain, minor bumps and bruises and a broken rib, but her son Richard Collins did not lose both of his parents that day.

    Air Iceland Plane Rejects Take Off due to Bird Strike

    Air IcelandsAir Iceland flight NY-17 rejected take off from Isafjordur Airport in Iceland, on April 26th.

    The plane was accelerating for take-off when a bird hit one of its propellers, prompting the pilots to reject take off.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. All 19 passengers remained unharmed.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Athens due to a Disruptive Passenger

    RyanairA Ryanair flight en route from Thessaloniki, Greece to Paphos, Cyprus, had to make an emergency landing in Athens due to a disruptive passenger.

    The plane took off at about 10 p.m. on June 23, with 168 passengers aboard. Soon after take-off, a 37 year old passenger claiming to be a “mechanic” started banging at the cockpit door and tried to break-in.

    The pilot reported the situation to Greek authorities who advised him to land in Athens. The troublesome passenger, believed to be a Cypriot national, was immobilized by the crew members and other passengers while the plane, which was just 20 minutes into the flight, was turned towards Athens. The plane safely landed and the passenger was handed over to the police.

    The passengers were accommodated in nearby hotels for the night. They continued their journey to Paphos on the next day.

    A spokesperson of Ryanair said, “We will fully assist the Greek police with the prosecution of this individual. We apologise sincerely to our other 168 customers on this flight for any delay or inconvenience suffered as a result of this diversion.”

    United Airlines Flight Diverts to Newark due to Engine Problem

    United Airlines flight UA-657 made an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey, on October 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Texas, was diverted due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
