    Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Sacramento After Bird Strike

    Delta Airlines flight DL-1384 suffered a bird strike near Sacramento Airport, California, on December 4th.

    The incident happened shortly after the Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Salt Lake City, Utah.

    The plane subsequently returned to Sacramento.

    All one hundred and fifty-two passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    Bell Helicopter Crashes in Oregon


    Around noon on Oct 28, a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter carrying two Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife employees who were conducting fish counts (counting spawning nests, also called redds) crashed in the South Umpqua River near Days Creek. Both passengers and the pilot were conscious.

    Power lines were damaged, and the plane was leaking fuel. Three hundred twenty people lost electricity. The FAA and the NTSB will be on hand to check out the accident. A hazmat team handled the fuel leak.

    Two passengers, Holly Huchko, 34 and Eric Himmelreich, 35 were taken to Mercy Hospital in Roseburg, and the pilot to Sacred Heart at Riverbend. Huchko broke her back, Himmelreich broke a vertebra and the pilot, Fred Wittlake, broke an arm and some ribs.

    The Umpqua Fish District office counts fish to help determine fishing regulation.

    Regional Airliner Diverts to DuPage for Emergency Landing

    United ExpressA SkyWest flight, operating as a United Express, had to make an emergency landing at DuPage County Airport, Illinois, on October 20.

    Flight 5290, carrying 44 passengers and 3 crew members, was heading from Asheville, North Carolina to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, when the crew reported problems in maintaining the altitude and taking right turns.

    The Canadair regional jet CRJ-200 aircraft was then diverted to DuPage where it made a safe emergency landing. SkyWest spokesperson Marissa Snow said, “The flight landed safely and customers were transported to O’Hare.”

    The incident remains under investigation by the FAA.

    American Airlines Flight Diverts to O’Hare International Airport

    An American Airlines flight had to divert and make an emergency landing at O’Hare International Airport, Illinois, on December 28th.

    The plane flying from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Minneapolis, Minnesota, was diverted due to a possible mechanical problem.

    The plane landed safely. All 149 passengers and 5 crew members remained safe.

    Jeju Air Plane Rejects Takeoff From Jeju City, South Korea

    Jeju Air flight 7C-510 had to reject takeoff from Jeju City, South Korea, on September 29th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Busan, South Korea, when the tower instructed the crew to stop.

    The crew subsequently rejected takeoff at high speed. Several tires deflated and the plane became disabled on the runway.

    All one hundred and fifty people aboard remained unharmed.
