    Garuda Flight Landed in Emergency after Wing Damage

    GarudaGaruda flight GA 698 had to make an emergency landing at Frans Kaisiepo Airport in Biak, Papua, Indonesia, on January 26.

    The flight, heading from Manokwari to Sentani Airport, Jayapura, had to declare emergency after one of its wings got damaged.

    According to the Head of Sentani Airport, Herson, the technicians in Biak found black smoke coming from the left wing of the plane. He added, “It is suspected that the flight was struck by lightning.”

    Some passenger reported that the flight was postponed till Tuesday.

    British Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Heathrow Airport

    British airwaysBritish Airways flight BA103 returned to London’s Heathrow Airport on January 8.

    The Boeing Dreamliner 787 was en-route to Calgary, Canada, when a technical issue with one of its engines forced it to return for an emergency landing.

    The airline said in a statement, “The flight landed safely at Heathrow and all customers left the aircraft as normal…We are sorry for the inconvenience but safety is always our highest priority…There was a suspected problem with the engine, and our engineers are now inspecting the aircraft to determine the nature of the problem.”

    Sightseeing Flight atKatmandu ends in Fatal Buddha Air Crash, 19 lost

    What: Buddha Air Beech 1900D performing flight U4-103 from Kathmandu to Kathmandu
    Where: Bisankunarayan Village, Kathmandu
    When: Sep 25th 2011
    Who: 16 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: On the flight were 2 Americans,3 Europeans, 10 Indians, 1 Japanese, and 3 Nepalese crew. The plane encountered foggy, rainy conditions on approach to Katmandu after a sightseeing flight. On approach, the flight lost contact at 7:31 local time, struck the roof of a house, and crashed into Kot Dada Hill.

    Problems with rescue efforts were compounded by heavy rain. Only one individual was retrieved alive by rescue personnel, but that person died.

    The black box has been recovered. A three person investigative team has been commissioned by the Nepalese government.

    Delta Air Lines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Atlanta

    Delta Air Lines flight 2824 had to make an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Georgia, on March 31st.

    The plane was flying from Lafayette, Louisiana, when the crew declared an emergency due to a possible nose gear issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Portland-Bound Alaska Airlines Plane Diverts to Eugene Airport

    The plane, heading from Seattle to Portland, had to be diverted after the pilot reported a mechanical issue.
