    Viva Aerobus Lightning strike

    Why: After a successful takeoff, the plane depressurized. Pilots diverted to Villahermosa where they made a safe landing.

    Mexican news reported that the plane was struck by lightning, and that when the pilots made a safe diversion and landing to Villahermosa, the plane was repaired.

    Passengers were reluctant to re-board but the flight continued at 19:15 hours on the same plane, after repairs. At the time of takeoff, there were still storms in the mountainous region of Chiapas.

    Air India Plane Diverts to Maharashtra due to Issue with Landing Gear

    Air India flight AI-676 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Maharashtra, India, on July 22nd.

    The Airbus A320-200 flying from Kolkata to Mumbai in India had to divert due to some issue with its landing gear.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Two Ryanair Planes Collided at London Stansted Airport

    RyanairTwo Ryanair Boeing 737-800 planes collided in the parking area of the London Stansted Airport, Essex, at around 6:50 a.m. on June 28. One of the planes was about to take off for Warsaw, Poland, while the other had just landed from Frankfurt Hahn, Germany.

    The tail cone of one plane and the wing tip of the other was damaged in the collision. A spokesperson of the Stansted Airport said, “We can confirm two aircraft were involved in a minor collision while on the ground at Stansted this morning. Both planes suffered some damage but there were no reported injuries to passengers or crew.”

    The passengers of the out-going flight had to face a three-hour delay before they were transferred to another plane.

    Robin Kiely, the spokesperson of Ryanair, said, “Our Stansted-based engineering team are currently investigating and will repair both aircraft and return them to service as soon as possible… Ryanair sincerely apologises to the affected passengers for any inconvenience.”

    Essex Police responded on the scene. They conducted routine breath tests on both of the pilots. There were no signs of alcohol. No further police action will be taken.

    Virgin Flight Diverts to Melbourne

    On Feb 22, 2013, a Boeing 737-800 Virgin Australia flight was in the air for ten minutes when the crew detected an odor in the cockpit.

    The pilot returned to Melbourne and made a safe landing at 9:09 a.m.

    Passengers were provided alternative flights. There were 129 passengers aboard.

    The incident is under investigation. The source of the odor is not yet known.

    Where: 70 passengers
    When: Feb 24 2010
    Who: 70 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the plane was struck by lightning.

    The lighting strike is probably the reason why an engine failed. The flight diverted to Luxembourg where it made a safe landing, and where they were able to arrange repairs.

    Passengers were provided overnight hotel accommodations, and scheduled to fly to Munich the next day.
