Birds Hit 3 Planes Near Laguardia Airport

Air CanadaThree flights made emergency landings at LaGuardia Airport, New York, after they were separately hit by birds within a period of 4 hours on September 3.

ExpressJet Flight 5400 reported bird strike shortly after 7 a.m., while it was turning to land on Runway 31. In the second incident, ExpressJet Flight 5432 was hit by the birds at about 8:53 a.m. while taxiing to the ramp and after less than 3 hours, the Air Canada 706 reported bird strike at about 11:15 a.m. while it was some 12 miles northeast of the airport.

All three planes made safe emergency landings and no injuries to personnel or damage to property was reported.

The FAA is investigating the incidents.

    The Boeing 757-200, en-route from Atlanta, Georgia, was on approach to Los Angeles’s runway when the crew reported the possibility of a flat tyre.

    The plane landed successfully.

    All 181 passengers onboard remained unharmed.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hawaii

    United Airlines flight UA-1175 made an emergency landing in Honolulu, Hawaii, on February 13th.

    The Boeing 777-200 plane was flying from San Francisco, California, when a piece of the cowling separated from the right-hand engine.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    $290.6 Million in Infrastructure Grants

    U.S. DOT Announces $290.6 Million in Infrastructure Grants to 105 Airports

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the FAA is awarding $ 290.6 million in airport infrastructure grants to 105 airports. The airport grant program funds airport infrastructure projects, runways, taxiways, and airport signage, lighting, and markings. “AIP grants will allow airports to complete critical airport infrastructure projects that will help maintain the safety of the nation’s airports,” said FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta. The grants will provide many jobs. AIP funding is allocated based on passenger volume. If their capital project needs exceed their available entitlement funds, then the FAA can supplement their entitlements with discretionary funding. The FAA is currently providing discretionary funding to 26 airports based on their high-priority project needs.

    Southwest Airlines Plane Diverts to Georgia due to Dripping Ceiling, Smoke and Smell

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1694 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia, on May 12th.

    The Boeing 737-300 flying from Tampa, Florida, to Nashville, Tennessee, had to divert due to water dripping off its ceiling, smoke, and unusual smell aboard.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 129 passengers aboard remained safe.
